While NYC deals to Athens and Santorini are common, and Chicago deals have started to crop up regularly thanks to increased competition, the west coast doesn’t usually see specials to Greece. However, right now the 3 major US airlines and their partners are offering great prices for flights to either Greece’s capital or the picturesque island, up to $1200 cheaper than normal. However, there’s a catch, or an opportunity, depending on your attitude. The deals to Santorini require a long stopover on the return, generally 16+ hours (the Athens deals often just have short stops). Normally I do not post deals with long stopovers, but these prices are good enough to warrant a look. Plus, a day’s stop in London can be a nice add-on to a Aegean vacation.

  • Los Angeles to Athens from $640 (United/Air Canada, Delta), and Santorini from $666 (American/British Air)
  • San Francisco to Athens from $721 (UA/AC), and Santorini from $771 (AA/Finnair/BA)

These deals are available for fall travel in September and October, including some weekend departure dates. These are basic economy deals, meaning carry-ons are included as well as meals, but not seat selection. When searching, fares may reprice when clicking through from Google Flights.

Given the specific dates, I don’t know how long to expect prices to stick around, so act quickly, knowing that you have a 24-refund guarantee for fares cancelled within 24 hours of purchase.

(Note that there are some better prices for SFO – LAX on Norwegian, but these are limited dates with a different fee structure. I may cover these separately.)
