Friday morning, the Internet exploded with reports of people being granted instant Hyatt Diamond status. While I’m not a big status chaser, I applied via DM on Twitter as well as through emailing goldpassport@hyatt.com
I’m currently SPG Gold (also IHG Platinum, Hilton Gold, Best Western Diamond) and sent my DM in on Friday morning around 8 a.m. Eastern. Not surprisingly, the entire Internet exploded on this offer, and it’s just now that they are getting back to me.
It does always amaze me when companies offer amazing deals, and then act surprised when everyone wants to get in on them!
I got a DM about 20 minutes ago stating
In the end
I can’t say that I’m outraged, though I am a little sad. I had already “spent” my status, pondering the 7 places I was going with my new Hyatt Diamond status. It’s a bit annoying that other people in similar situations did end up getting comped up to Diamond.
Honestly, I’m not sure what Hyatt Platinum status will even get me – is it even worth applying for?
Leave your results in the comments – did you get the coveted Diamond status, or are you “stuck” with Platinum?

“Stuck” with Platinum here, too. We were just too late to the game, it seems.
Yeah – stupid sleeping….
Thinking that you may need top tier status with major competitors. SPG Gold, IHG Platinum, Hilton Gold are not top tier, so I think you have been matched accordingly. I’m sure there are tons of SPG plats, IHG Spires, etc, that are applying that are more qualified for Diamond in the eyes of Hyatt. They also may not consider Best Western as a major competitor.
Maybe – but there were plenty of SPG Golds that got matched to Diamond. I think I just missed it.
I have IHG Spire status which since it was introduced has got me the royal treatment several times at IHG properties in Europe. Hyatt Platinum seems virtually worthless. Anywhere will give you a 2pm checkout if you show a competing chain’s status card unless they really are full, in which case Hyatt Platinum will not get you anywhere either! I also sent a DM and got the same woolly response “We would love to have you….” All that was missing was the word BUT in capitals! I have no problem with hotels reserving their high grade status but then don’t offer it in the first p;lace. That is just annoying and creates the impression that the guys at the top have no idea what they are doing and zero marketing skills.
I found this similar to a mistake fare. I applied at 2pm on Thursday and ended up getting diamond with SPG gold. With so many blogs, Reddit, Flyertalk saying every deal, one cannot snooze
My Twitter DM said match to Diamond but I haven’t got a response back from the email I sent with the proof. If they try to give me less than Diamond, I’m going to send a screenshot of the Twitter DM that said a match to diamond status.
I’m in the same boat. I received the twitter DM saying I’d be matched to Diamond, and I sent the requested screenshot showing SPG Plat, so now I’m waiting to see what they will do.
Actually that’s a better boat than mine as I don’t have a Twitter DM saying I’ll be matched to Diamond (only to Platinum). In your case, I think you’re probably okay and just need to wait it out
Still waiting here with proof as Hilton Diamond. I am losing hope here
Bummer! Consider making friends with someone nice enough to ‘share’ their Diamond status with you for your stays.
Applied Thursday night as an SPG Gold. Got a response this Saturday night approving me as Diamond. Don’t know if I simply got lucky, or got in early, or if it was because I’ve stayed at a few of the exotic Hyatt’s this year. But checked my account and it’s already updated as diamond. Yet don’t see any mention of 4 suite upgrades in my account.
All the status that you have are mid-range elite statuses that can be easily obtained with credit cards. Stop whining.
When I first saw this comment, my initial response was to say that I WASN’T whining. But upon some further reflection, I guess I am whining at least a LITTLE. To be clear though, I did not “expect” them to give me Diamond, but you know how it is – anytime you “almost” get something, you feel like you kind of “lost” it, even though you never really had it in the first place. If this whole Diamond thing had never shown up, then I’d be sitting here as a Hyatt Gold and feeling just fine about myself 🙂
I’m glad they shut off the fountain. As someone who earns Diamond by staying it’s annoying that they give it out for free. I feel the same way about airline matches. If you want the benefits, do the nights or miles.
Platinum did help me when a return flight home didn’t depart until 5PM. Hyatt agreed to extend my checkout until 3PM at no charge. No, it’s not a free lavish breakfast, but it’s something.
Yeah that’s nice, but as others have pointed out, we already have Hyatt Platinum status from a credit card. As for late checkout, I’ve found that most places will offer that anyways, and if not, it’s not that big of a deal to just head to an airport lounge
Bummer indeed, Dan. We’re still waiting here — didn’t get our requests in until about 24 hours ago. Happens we’re both Hyatt Gold Platinum members already (via the CC – and would quality too on stays). Will be interesting to read how they’re going to handle our diamond disappointment (if that’s what’s coming), as they can’t offer us a status we already have as a concession. Keeping expectations low, yet hoping.
Sorry to hear you didn’t get Diamond status. Even though it wasn’t promised, it seemed like “everyone” was getting it and this must feel like a letdown. With Platinum, you get 15% point bonus, free internet, 2pm check-out, a separate reservations line, and the special check-in elite lane. Not earth shattering benefits but free Platinum status is better than nothing.
Hyatt Platinum Elite = no elite at all. No parking in major downtowns, no breakfast, no lounge.
Yup. Consider me underwhelmed
I also took your advice and tried to take Hyatt’s offer of Diamond Status match unsuccessfully. After a few very polite DM’s they said they would upgrade me to Platinum, which I already am. It may be a script driven response? I feel that they may have been a bit more sensitive; especially w/ the Marriott/Starwood situation coming soon. Could have been an opportunity to gain some long term following
I think it is script driven at this point. My guess is that some mid-level social manager thought they’d do something like this, and then were overwhelmed by the response, so the big dogs had to get involved and put the brakes on
Gotta love how so many are upset when their mid level status attained by CC purchase didn’t translate into top tier Diamond! Everyone is so entitled these days. DO the time honestly and then you are entitled!
I understand the feelings from you and other people who got Diamond “the hard way”, but to clarify, I think that I’ve been quite clear that I do not feel “entitled” to Hyatt Diamond. I’m not angry, I’m not going to sue Hyatt – I’m just mildly disappointed since I felt like I was “so close” to getting Hyatt Diamond
I got diamond. Applied Thursday night as a SPG Plat at 60 nights to date in 2015. Glad to get out of there before the real disaster.
Honestly, it wasn’t fair to us Hyatt Diamonds to give that status away so easily. Start staying at Hyatt, I’m loving the quality of the hotels compared to Hilton & many Marriots.
Just got my email matching me to Diamond status from my email Fri morning.
I requested diamond status on early Thursday. still not heard anything. should I be worried??
I am a Hyatt and Hilton Diamond member and running short on stays
for Hyatt Diamond renewal I thought to try the promo and was told by
Hyatt to wait 21 days. Then finally was told I don’t qualify and have to
do the stays. Not very good treatment of a 10+ year top tier member.
On the other hand Hilton replied very quickly with a welcome you are
now Diamond member until March 2017. I will concentrate my stays
with Hilton in 2016.
