Last time I talked about how Avis wouldn’t accept my Avis Preferred Wizard number when I had a reservation booked through the Chase Ultimate Rewards mall.
Reader @Bitachu asked the following on
@PointsWithACrew could it be that your getting a discount(with a specific contract id/coupon) thru the UR portal…?
Yes, I think that is possible if not likely that I am getting a special discount from Chase. But isn’t this analogous to booking a plane flight through the UR mall (or Priceline or Hotwire)? I would not expect to earn miles or rewards on such a flight, but I would think that I would be able to get any elite benefits that I had on that airline without the rate suddenly changing.
But maybe that is incorrect – I’m not elite with any airline so I don’t have any experience with that – anyone out there able to chime in?

I couldn’t get through last night, but I tried again at 6:30 this morning (ah…. the school year!). None of the automated menu options seemed to work, but I ended up just pressing 0 and getting through to a local agent.
I explained the problem and she first asked if it was a Priceline thing or if I booked through Avis. I explained how I booked it through Chase, and she said that she would try but she wasn’t sure if anything could be done.
First try she wasn’t able to do that, but then asked for my name again because it was telling her that “the last name didn’t match”. She was saying that it was coming up Miller Daniel instead of Daniel Miller. I gave her my Wizard number again, and I’m not sure what she did, but she said that it was all linked up now.
Checking online
Logging in to my Avis account online, whereas last night I was not able to see my reservation, this morning I am!
We’ll see how it goes at the airport, but so far it is looking good.

Just tried this. Called Avis, Priceline, then the Avis branch. Didn’t work 🙁
Wish you knew what the lady did!
