Airline deals are few and far between right now. Airlines have drastically reduced their flight schedules and therefore are not trying to fill as many seats as they were before the Coronavirus slowdown. Once travel does pick back up, I would expect airlines to offer tons of deals to try to win back market share. You don’t have to wait to book a Southwest sale fare though as they have rolled out a “Ready for Summer? We’re Here for You” sale this week.
Deals are available through its website and are advertised as low as $49 each way. Given the flexibility that Southwest offers from a cancellation perspective (particularly if you have Rapid Rewards points) it makes sense to book a trip for later in the year to take advantage of the low prices. If things don’t improve from a travel standpoint it will be easy to cancel.
If you don’t have Southwest points you can still bank a travel credit for a future trip. As a reminder, if Southwest hosts a sale, make sure you check any existing flights you have already purchased. Southwest has no change fees, and if the sale price is lower you will receive a credit for the difference usable for future Southwest fares. Also, if you change your mind after you buy one of these flights, remember that any fare marketed in the US is free to cancel within 24 hours.
This sale ends tomorrow (May 7) at 11:59 PM Pacific Time, so you’ll have to jump on it soon if you want a deal.

Hey Ross,
I booked a Wanna get away trip now for the Fall season and if I cant make it for some reason, can I cancel for free? And will I get my money back? Havent flown SW since year 2000. No baggage fee, its time to fly SW. Thank you!
Hey Kay, you can cancel anytime up to 10 minutes before your flight for a SW credit. If you have Rapid Rewards points and purchase flights with them you can get the points redeposited into your account with the same 10 minutes time frame. I hope you are able to make your fall trip!
Ross, Thank you for your reply.
That’s good to know. One can book with confidence without having to worry about the fees you have to pay if a situation comes up and unable to make the trip. Every dollar counts in our uncertain times.
I googled online and understand the travel credit is good for 12 mths and does one have to use it in one go when making a booking?
Thanks!
Kay, you should be able to use the credit on multiple bookings if needed. Also I agree that SW is awesome since you can cancel or change without fees. My family flies them as much as possible!
@kay
The answer to your questions are written about above. SW always looks after it’s customers!
