Dubai International Airport has just announced an awesome new partnership specifically for families. Together, it and the Dubai International Hotel have launched a new package, creatively called “Wake Up At The Gate.”
The Details
This program is totally unique, allowing families to check in to their morning flights a full night before takeoff. That means avoiding this and instead making your way through security and the departures terminal before settling in to a good night’s sleep at the Dubai International Hotel. The next morning, a personal wake up call and escort to the gate means you’ll arrive with plenty of time to spare before departure.
- The cost is AED 350 for a family of four, which works out to about $25/person.
- The fee includes up to 12 hours of use for a room in the Dubai International Hotel and provides full access to the hotel’s amenities, such as the pool, gym, free tea and coffee, and a complimentary fruit basket.
- The package also offers concierge service, a premium meet and greet, and a personal escort to the gate at departure, complete with free bags of healthy snacks for each child to take on the plane.
Summary
As any parent can tell you, traveling with kids is…not easy (understatement of the century, here). Herding the family together at 3am for a 7am flight turns an already difficult endeavor into a nightmare, as a lack of sleep and fear of missing your flight piles on the stress. A service like this erases those worries, giving you a wide window for check in and peace of mind about being on time. I’d love to see a similar offering come to the US, especially as the cost for a family of four is only $100- including concierge service and an overnight at a nice hotel. I can’t imagine this package failing, and -hopefully- we’ll see it catch on enough that something similar makes its way to us.

Even with a family of 7, which would make this cost ~$175, I would pay this in a heartbeat. Of course, I’m sure the first/only places where this will be implemented will be somewhere that I don’t fly from (or to), like LAX or LGA.
I think the value of this package rises proportionately to the number of your family members. 🙂 Though you’re probably right, it will likely come first to the largest airports before making its way out to the rest of us.
