We have seen multiple airlines and hotel chains extending status or lowering the threshold to earn status throughout 2020. Given the travel landscape and difficulty for consumers to move forward with travel plans this is the right move and is a trend that will most likely continue. Today Amtrak has announced an update to their Amtrak Guest Rewards that is in line with what we have seen throughout the travel industry.
What is Happening?
Amtrak has enacted a tier extension that is being offered to all its Guest Rewards members. Any member who is holding Select, Select Plus or Select Executive tier status will have it automatically extended through February 28, 2022. The best part about this extension is that it is automatic. There is no registration or action required by members.
What are the Details?
Here are the additional pertinent details for the extension:
– Amtrak is offering a pause of coupon (upgrade, companion, etc.) expiration until September 25th
– There will be a pause of point expiration until September 25th
– Select members who must travel have access to Amtrak lounges and clubs through June 30th
– There will be no fees for changing or canceling reward travel through May 31st
If you are an Amtrak Guest Rewards member this is great news. Any time a rewards program extends it’s benefits for members it is a win. Let’s hope that travel becomes easier in the back half of 2020!
