It’s hard to believe that summer is almost over! Southwest is looking forward to the change of seasons with a “Fall Fare Sale”. Fares as low as $59 one way are available now through Thursday, August 12. While many airlines have added flexibility to their cancellation policies over the past year, this has always been the case with Southwest. A big benefit of booking with Rapid Rewards points is that flights are always cancellable.
Deals for this sale are available through the Southwest website and are advertised as low as $59 each way. Given the flexibility that Southwest offers from a cancellation perspective, it doesn’t hurt to book a trip to lock in the low prices. If your plans change, Southwest makes it easy to cancel or adjust your travel plans.
If you don’t have Southwest points and book a flight using cash, you can still bank a travel credit for a future trip. Remember that anytime Southwest hosts a sale, make sure you check existing flights you have already purchased. Southwest has no change fees, and if the sale price is lower, you will receive a credit for the difference usable for future Southwest fares. Also remember that any fare sold in the U.S. must have free cancellation within 24 hours.
This sale ends August 12 at 11:59 PM Central Time.
Traveling on Southwest
Southwest stepped up its COVID-19 response last year and has continued many of the protocols. The process was branded as the “Southwest Promise” and currently includes enhanced cleaning, electrostatic disinfectant spray, HEPA air filters and mandatory face coverings for passengers and employees and enhanced social distancing protocols. While Southwest and many other airlines blocked the middle seats during the last year, the middle seats on all Southwest flights are now back open. Sorry Dan, I cannot support Southwest any longer. I and my wife are both in our 70’s and plan our travel to be as convenient as possible. Because of the pandemic we found ourselves with over $500 in travel credits with Southwest. As the expiation date (6-26-2021) got closer, we tried using these credits for trips to St. Louis to visit friends but every time we bought these nonstop flights, Southwest would eventually cancel and try to force us into connecting flights making our wanted hour 20 minute flight into 4 and 5 hour trips. So I eventually wrote Southwest and asked for an extension. They called me on the phone and assured me that after the expiration date I should wait 7-10 days and check my account. They assured me the funds would be back. I’m sure you’ve guessed by now, they were not. Again I reached out to them but they denied any correspondence and insinuated I was lying. They said they would investigate and I got an email just a couple of weeks ago referencing a flight and email they had sent to me. I had not recieved that email and to this day I am without my extension or credits. This was my go to airline out of Columbus Ohio but sadley no longer.
Yay!! I’m a southwest member and just got a $150 voucher from them. This is perfect.
