IHG Point Breaks are one of the best uses of points. Every 2-3 months, IHG releases about 150 hotels that are bookable for only 5000 points a night.
Note that these hotels, especially the nicer hotels, sell out FAST! IHG is one of the hotel chains that only releases a certain number of rooms as rewards nights, and once those are gone, then not only can you not get it for the 5000 points – you can’t reserve it at ALL using points on that night

IHG Category changes that just happened
Remember that IHG announced that several of their hotels changed category as of the start of May. It will be interesting to see if any of those hotels appear on the Point Breaks list as a sort of “bone” to travelers upset with the increased point requirements.
Sneak peek of IHG Point Breaks hotels
- InterContinental® hotel Nha Trang, Vietnam
- Crowne Plaza® hotel New Delhi Mayur Vihar Noida, India
- Holiday Inn® hotel Andorra, Europe
- Holiday Inn® hotel Cordoba, Argentina
- Holiday Inn Express® hotel Frankfurt-Messe, Germany, Europe
- Staybridge Suites® hotel Tallahassee I-10 East, Florida, United States
- Candlewood Suites® hotel Washington-Fairfax, Virginia, United States
I see that there’s a Candlewood Suites on the list – unfortunately based on my experience, the only rooms they book for awards that they release only (fit 2 people – so it’s not really feasible for a large family such as mine.

I will once again be making a map of the IHG Point Breaks locations – look for that on May 26th (next Tuesday) once the full list goes live. In the meantime, you can still book the existing Point Breaks locations until May 31st.

Our experience as a family of 4 at a Candlewood Suites ( OC Airport- Irvine West) differs from yours. As a IHG Platinum, we got a one bedroom suite complete with kitchenette and the complimentary use of a laundry room. We cooked our own breakfast and did our laundry – we had to bring our own detergent though!
Was this on an award stay or a paid stay? I’ve had good experiences with a Candlewood Suites but only on a pay stay (Which I try to limit!). For award stays, most Candlewood Suites that I go to have a limit of 2 people per reservation.
