Is your MileagePlan account burning a hole in your pocket? Or maybe you need more Alaska miles? Check out this promotion with Fiji Airways!
Now through the end of February, book award travel on Fiji Airways (using your Alaska miles) and save up to 50% of the cost! If you’re paying for your flights, be sure register for double miles here and book those flights by 2/29/2020.
Although Alaska Airlines isn’t a member of any major alliance, they have a respectable list of partners throughout the world. In addition to Fiji Airways, the west coast carrier can include American Airlines, Korean Air, El Al, Aer Lingus, and others among its roster.
Booking Fiji Partner Awards on Alaska Airlines
Fiji Airways and Alaska Airlines have cut the award redemption rates needed for your next flight to paradise! Typically, you can book reward tickets on Fiji Airways from North America to the South Pacific, Australia, and New Zealand for 40,000 miles in economy, or 55,000 miles in business. During the promotional period, economy tickets are 20,000 miles, and business seats are 40,000 miles. These prices are one-way, but can still provide great value.
Flights from Hawaii are priced separately, at 27,500 economy, 45,000 business. Those have been knocked down to 20,000 and 40,000 miles, respectively, as well. It looks like there’s no limit on the actual flight dates (other than what’s currently bookable, to mid-December as of the time of posting). There doesn’t appear to be any blackout dates either, with availability wide open this summer at the reduced prices.
Earning Double Alaska Miles on Fiji Airways Flights
Make sure you register your account here. The promotion itself is simple:
- Register your account by 2/29/2020.
- Book your Fiji Airways flight by 2/29/2020.
- Fly by 6/30/2020, and credit the flight to your Alaska MileagePlan account.
- Double Alaska MileagePlan miles will be deposited into your account within 4-6 weeks.
If you book, make sure it’s a good price – we see occasional sales on tickets to Fiji, but this is the best offer in recent memory. Of course, most of us will want to use our hard-earned miles!
Maximizing the Alaska/Fiji Partnership
There are two great ways to maximize this promotion. Alaska will allow domestic connections on their partner awards. Sometimes the routing gets weird, especially if you’re trying to get to Fiji all the way from the East Coast. Good news? It’s doable (see below). Just keep searching. Fiji Airways also allows free stopovers at their international hub, Nadi on the main island of Fiji. Lucky for us, there’s plenty of hotel options and the area is gorgeous.
I took advantage of this promotion, and booked a flight from Boston to Fiji, continuing onto Auckland this summer. We’re really looking forward to the trip, despite the length of the flights. We’re flying BOS-SFO in Alaska domestic first class, SFO-LAX in Alaska main cabin, LAX-NAN in Fiji Airways coach (this is going to be a long flight…), and finally NAN-AKL in Fiji Airways business. I’m stoked to try out a bunch of new airlines and products. We’re flying back on a combination of Air New Zealand, Air Tahiti Nui, and American Airlines. I’ll be sure to write up those experiences too.
Unfortunately, I still had to pay business class rates, even though the longest leg of the flights (LAX-NAN) is in coach. Trust me, I’m not complaining. I think almost 10,000 flight miles for only 40,000 Alaska Airlines miles is a great deal. If you book a flight on this deal, let us know in the comments, see you down under.
