Did you see the bid on the SPG moments for the grand opening of Westin Nanea Ocean Resort in Maui in 2017? Well, the wining bid was 253,500 SPG points, expensive but only a fraction of the 1,000,000 points for throwing the first pitch at World Series in 2016. While some SPG moments are very pricy, there are plenty that are actually affordable. If you are a fan of fast cars or racing, you should check out SPG moments Formula 1 packages, as they start at less than 10,000 points.
Formula One races
I am not into cars at all, but I did marry one who is. Our TV recorded countless car shows, auctions, and races over the years. I watched many of the races, but the one I always look forward to is Formula One. It is quite a thrill to watch the fastest road course racing cars in the world racing the clock and against each other!
Held around the world each year, Formula One world championship races are typically done over three-day weekends – practice day on Friday, qualifying day on Saturday, and Grand Prix on Sunday. As you can see from the 2018 Formula One calendar, each season starts with Australia in March and ends with Abu Dhabi in November. Here in North America, Formula One races are held in Montreal in June, Austin Texas and Mexico City in October.
SPG Moments Formula 1 experience
Starwood formed a partnership with Mecedez AMG Petronas Formula One racing team in 2012. It become the official accommodations provider for race attendees. Since then, Starwood has been offering member-only travel packages through SPG Moments. Three different types of packages are offered for each day of the race.
This year’s Formula One race just started last weekend (March 23-25) in Melbourne Australia. It was an exciting race! After winning the season opener in 2017, Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel once again beat Mecedez’s Lewis Hamilton to win Melbourne Grand Prix.
SPG Moments Formula 1 packages are currently on sale for Barcelona race on May 12. You can find the complete list here. Packages for new races are added as time gets closer, and prices vary depending on location. Some of the packages can be had for below 10,000 SPG points. A pair of Grand Stand tickets can be purchased at a flat cost of 20,000 points. The ultimate VIP experiences are usually sold in auction format, such as the one shown below for the Monaco race in May 2017. This package sold for over 950,000 SPG points in 2016.
If I were to bid on any SPG Moments, the Formula One packages would be it. I would love to surprise my husband someday with tickets to a Formula One race, perhaps in Montreal or Austin, and maybe even as far as Barcelona or Singapore.

Mexico is good and interesting but pricey so far. Tickets are a pain because Ticketmaster Mexico doesn’t play well with others.
Montreal is good and cheap but a pain to get to from many cities I think.
Monza isn’t too bad.
Yeah I am not exactly sure how to get tickets for overseas races. Perhaps from the Formula 1 website. Montreal is not hard to get to from the U.S, but the race track is far from city center. I like Singapore, the grand stand is in the Marina area and right next to Conrad and Singapore Flyer.
If you have a ritz carlton credit card they have a card member event for the montreal F1 priced at 4500$ which is a bargain compared to the benefits you are getting.
Singapore is a night race which makes it one of the best to watch. Monaco is a street circuit which is also amazing.
I think you cannot go wrong in picking any F1 race as they all are amazing but if I had to pick one it would be the belgian grand prix.
Oh maybe I need to get the Ritz Carlton card again. I cancelled it a year ago. Yes I love the Singapore one, so easy to get to because it is right in the city!
I am a big F1 fan. Not happy with the new US TV coverage this year and the switch Sky TV – understanding how us and the Brits are separated by a common language…
I have been to Montreal three times for the GP, and once to Austin. Going to Montreal again this June – staying in the burbs at the Laval Hampton Inn. 30,000 Hilton points a night for two nights.
Would like to go to a race outside North American at some point.
We are not happy with the TV coverage either!! NBC have done such a great job through last year, and ESPN was quite terrible at the season opening race. 🙁 Nice tip for Montreal.
