It’s no secret we love Priority Pass here at the blog. Access to dedicated facilities, away from the crowds in the terminal, can help turn one of the most stressful times of traveling into one of the best (I am a very dedicated lounge lizard, in case you couldn’t tell). And with so many cards giving Priority Pass these days, even basic reward card newbies can get in.

Alas, such popularity is a double-edged sword, as reports of overcrowded lounges and sub-par food are common and continue to increase. That being said, there are still some good lounges available, and today Priority Pass has announced its choice for Global Lounge of the year. Drumroll please….

Global Winner

This year’s winner is: Sala VIP Internacional, Quito, Ecuador.

The lounge itself looks pretty snazzy, and according to Priority Pass’ website, features a spacious terrace, an array of local Ecuadorian food, and a very welcoming staff.

Regional Winners

Also announced were the regional winners:

I’ve only personally visited the Miracle Lounge in Bangkok, and while its details are lost in the haze of lounges past, I seem to recall it had a pretty good spread of Thai food.

Conclusion

It’s nice to see that in the days of overflowing and pay-for-play lounges there are some real gems left. I’m not going to fly all the way to Ecuador just to visit the winner, but if I just happen to find a cheap flight that routes through there, well, I won’t tell my family if you won’t.

Has anyone here visited one of these lounges? What did you think?
