The continuing fare war from New York to Europe has brought us excellent fares to Madrid. Availability is from both United and her Star Alliance partners as well as American and Oneworld. As you might expect, the lowest prices are available for weekday departures, with at least 4 days round trip though availability expands at 7+ days. Some weekend departures can be found with flexibility, however.
- Madrid: $227 basic economy / $347 main cabin
- Barcelona: $246 / $366
The real steal for these are the Madrid summer prices. Finding flights to Europe for under $600 basic economy and $750 main cabin will be very difficult once late spring rolls around, so these are almost half off for early planners.
- Madrid: $344 / $484
AA allows seat choice for main cabin
The lowest prices are basic economy, which is a carry-on and meals. Main cabin is $120 – $140 more, which will generally include a checked bag and seat choice, but read carefully to ensure you aren’t paying extra to pick your seats. For instance, United includes seats but her partner Swiss does not. That said, taking a family of 4 to Spain in the summer for under $2,000 is a darn good deal.
