Earlier this year, Wyndham purchased La Quinta for just under 2 billion dollars. Doing so will eventually add a ton of new rooms and hotels to the Wyndham portfolio:

Wyndham Hotels will have some 9,239 locations and 807,600 rooms—making it the largest in the world by number of hotels, and third largest by rooms. La Quinta will also marry its rewards program of 13 million members with that of Wyndham’s, which has 53 million.

For those who have points in the La Quinta Rewards program, starting today, you can now combine your points into your Wyndham account, at a rate of 1:1. Transfers must be made in increments of 1,000.

For me, this was a pretty nice surprise. I had 3,000 “orphaned” LQ points that I was able to transfer over to Wyndham and was also able to match my Wyndham Platinum status to LQ Elite status. That’s enough points for a Wyndham “Go Fast” reward, which is pretty cool for 2 minutes of work. While I have no stays planned for La Quinta in the near future, it’s always good to take advantage of these things when they come around–you never know when you’ll need it!

Let us know if you’ll be moving your LQ points to Wyndham!
