In addition to paid travel and credit card sign-up bonuses, another great way to earn points is through shopping portals. For those of you who may not know, shopping portals give you additional points for buying products through them. We buy a lot of things online these days, why not be rewarded for it?

Right now, the United MileagePlus shopping portal is offering a tiered bonus depending on how much you spend. This offer is good from today until February 14th–Valentine’s Day!
United Airlines Valentine’s Day Bonus
This bonus runs from now until February 14th, and gives you 500 bonus United Airlines points when you spend $125 or 1,000 points when you spend $250. That’s slightly better than their promotion from earlier this year, in which you needed to spend $300 to get 1,000 points. You can learn more about the promotion here.
Bonus Terms
- This one-time bonus award will be determined using one of the following tiers, based on Member’s cumulative qualifying purchases made during the Bonus Period: Tier 1 bonus: 500 miles for qualifying purchases of at least $125; or Tier 2 bonus: 1,000 miles for qualifying purchases of at least $250 or more.
- Qualifying purchases do not include returns, cancellations, shipping and handling, taxes, gift card or other cash equivalent purchases, and certain products that are not eligible for bonus miles.
- Please allow 8-10 weeks after the Bonus Period for bonus award miles to post to your MileagePlus Shopping account.
- The Tier 2 bonus provides the maximum number of miles that will be awarded. Void where prohibited by law.

Maximizing Points
This offer times well with another increased United MileagePlus shopping portal bonus: 30 points per dollar on 1-800-Flowers purchases.
If you spend the full $250 (which on flowers is not out of the realm of possibility, given their prices and shipping costs), you could be looking at 8,500 United miles. That’s not bad! Note: many people have complained that 1-800-Flowers does not always have the best quality flowers. This is not an endorsement, just an example of points maximizing through the portal.
Whatever you decide to buy, it’s hard to say no to bonus points. Happy shopping!
