Late last year, there was a flurry of status matching offers flying around from different programs.  After the Starwood Marriott merger was announced (latest update on the deal), Hyatt made a play for disaffected SPG loyals by offering a status match.  At first, they were pretty much giving Hyatt Diamond to pretty much everyone.  I missed out on that deal, but when Hilton offered status matches to Diamond, I was successful!
How my Hilton Diamond status is working out
We’ve had 2 stays at Hiltons since I got my Diamond status, and they’ve both been spectacular. Â On our round the world trip, we stayed at the Conrad Singapore and the Hilton Doubletree Johor Bahru (Malaysia)

As Diamond members, we were upgraded to great rooms on top floors, and most importantly, that came with Executive Club lounge access, with breakfast, “afternoon tea” and :”evening cocktail” – code for lunch and dinner if we wanted it.
How to match to Hilton Diamond through 2018
Per Miles to Memories, One Mile at a Time, To match to Hilton Diamond, head to http://hhonormystatus.hiltonapps.com/
Take the 10 seconds to fill out the form and that’s it!
You do need to get a screenshot of your proof of status as well sa at least one stay within the past 12 months. Â I am not sure whether an award stay would count or not – my guess is that it might depend on how it shows up on your screenshot – I certainly think it might.
Can you “re-match”?
It’s not clear. Miles to Memories reports that he did, and while there is language in the terms and conditions that these status matches are “once” per offer, it’s not clear if this is a “different” status match or not. Â My opinion on these types of things is it’s better to just give it a try – what’s the worst thing that can happen?
What statuses will they match to?
Hilton Gold is available with a variety of credit cards, including several of the cards on our top credit card offers page. So while having Hilton Gold is useful, getting a status match to it is not particularly useful – really only Diamond would be useful. Â There are reports that IHG Platinum (also available with the IHG credit card) will match to Hilton Diamond, and that is what I used to submit

I will let you know if it’s successful – in the meantime, give it a try if you want to try your hand at Hilton Diamond!

Yes, I got in on the last match to Diamond using my IHG Plat – no problems at all.
Now if only Marriott would offer something – I’d really like to be above silver for some upcoming stays this year and next!
Does this seem like a good strategy…?
1) I already have a trip booked at a Hilton Property in Late June. It would be great to at least try to get Diamond status for that trip. It’s a week long stay in a somewhat expensive US city.
2) I sign up, or both my wife and I sign up for the IHG card today/tomorrow.
3) We book a cheapish hotel night at an IHG property in a day or two (note, this would be before we actually get the card in the mail).
4) We then have a receipt for a hotel stay at IHG with reward number showing (hopefully they don’t show status?? If they do, we would need to do this step later–but that wouldn’t be as convenient at all) and once the card is in hand, with out docs of status, we can submit for status match at Hilton.
5) We would expect to be matched, and can ask for upgrades for our June trip.
Seems like it’d work, but I’m new to this, so there might be holes I’m not thinking about.
The alternative is to do the AmEx Hilton card for Gold status and save some hassle and the required hotel stay. But it feels like the Diamond status could be very nice to have while it lasts. I could always get the AmEx card later to make sure I’m at least at Gold level.
Thoughts?
Thanks!
What Hilton are you staying at? If Gold can get you most of what you want, I would probably just do that, since it seems like your timing is pretty tight to try and get the Diamond approved. Also, I don’t think IHG Platinum applies right away – from what I remember, it doesn’t come until after your first credit card statement closes (this burned me back when I signed up for it a few years ago)
Thanks for the reply!
Hilton Austin downtown.
I should add also that if I do the Amex Hilton offer there’s a good chance of not being able to do the IHG card for around a year due to it being Chase whereas right now I believe I’m under the 5 cards in 2 years thing.
It definitely feels rushed to do what I was hoping to do and I really don’t want to do both cards at same time because $5k in three months is a lot even if we could possibly reach it easily I would likely have to mess around with auto payments that are setup, etc.
The downtown Austin Hilton is reserved with the very lowest cost rooms and 2 queen beds whereas a king would be preferred and reviews indicate the lower floors can have a lot of music noise coming through in he evenings. Additionally it would be great to have lounge breakfast access.
Any and all thoughts appreciated and will certainly go through your links.
Hilton Gold will get you breakfast so I think I’d go with that
