One of the best recurring hotel promotions is IHG Accelerate. Most of the time I’ve found that I can maximize a couple offers to take home a nice haul of bonus points. It’s best if you can qualify for everything with a single stay, but this is a little more rare.
Failing late in 2017
Our last offer is a tale of points woe. My wife had a great offer for her Q3 IHG Accelerate promotion. We could maximize the entire offer with a single night stay.
Alas, I didn’t read the terms and conditions carefully enough (SEE: How we lost out on 26,500 IHG points), and we didn’t end up getting all the bonus points. It’s not my worst travel hacking fail, but it was frustrating.
But there is opportunity for redemption
Turns out my Q1 2018 IHG Accelerate offer is pretty similar to what my wife had in Q3 last year. The only twist is that I need to buy points instead of the bonus package offer, which is honestly easier. Here’s my offer:
I’ll certainly complete this. We struck out in early 2017 with garbage offers, but the last two have been gold. Er…opportunity for gold. Just gotta read those T&Cs. 🙂
Check out Dan’s offer, too (SEE: IHG Accelerate Q1 2018 promotion – this time I might actually do it?!?).
Putting my haul to good use
I’m already sitting on 172,000 IHG points, so this’ll just add to the pile. We use a few here and there (such as at the Intercontinental Carlton Cannes), but they’ve managed to slowly grow (through opportunities like this) over the past year and a half. I hate throwing them away for less than 0.7 cents per point, so I often opt to stay at other chains with a better redemption rate. IHG points did save our bacon one night last winter.
The best use of IHG points in my opinion is PointBreaks (SEE: The IHG Points Breaks sortable map and table). I’ve not actually ever followed through on a PointBreaks reservation, even though I have made them. Each time, some piece of the trip just doesn’t fall into place and I have to cancel. One day I’ll snag a great stay for 5,000 IHG points per night.
The whole idea of being able to spend $100 for one night to get enough points for 6+ is just insane. I wish other chains were willing to emulate the crazy IHG promos!
Conclusion
I cannot pass up an offer like this. It’s just too easy.

Surely you wouldn’t even buy the points as you only need 3 of the 4 for the bonus and buying points is expensive
If I knew I could pull of 5 nights with work, I wouldn’t worry. But buying 1,000 points for $11 plus one stay is much cheaper than paying for 5 nights.
I consider it a $100-$120 “investment” for points worth ~$210.
My offer this time around was garbage.
I’ve had the same before. Had two in a row where I had to stay like 15 nights to get all the points. #nothanks
