As summer deals cool down, fall and winter deals are heating up. Currently there are good prices to Spain from both Los Angeles and Chicago, mainly through United and Star Alliance. These deals are good from September into next year, and in some cases include you spending New Year’s eve/day already settled in Spain.
- Los Angeles to Barcelona from $336 (Air Canada/United/Swiss), to Madrid from $398 (this fare is Iberia/Oneworld)
- Chicago to Barcelona from $345, to Madrid from $461 (both with TAP Portugal)
Unlike the recent American Airlines deals to Switzerland and Italy, these are basic economy fares. That means carry-on and meals are included, but not seat selection or checked bags. These prices are best found by booking directly, though OTAs are available for some routes. The TAP fares include their standard free stopover in Portugal (when booked directly), meaning these fares include a stop of up to 5 days in Lisbon or Porto at no extra charge. I’d expect these prices to bump up to normal (around another ~$200 – $300) sometime in the next day or two, so step lively if these fares work for you.
