Be Sure You’re Really Saving Money!
Looking at a few random dates, hotels near me seem to have decent availability at these special sale rates. This same hotel showed a $194/night rate for the same dates, also nonrefundable. This equates to about a 6% discount. The fully refundable rate for those same nights was $230/night – a 20% discount. I’m not entirely sure how IHG is calculating the discount, but it’s worth checking out.
Not a bad sale, but as always, make sure the rate is actually a good price. If you can get a comparable hotel from another chain down the street…well, it’s up to you. Remember too that if you have an existing refundable rate reservation, you may be able to cancel and rebook at a lower rate, though keep in mind that the rates with the summer sale promotion are then nonrefundable.
One of the reasons I always book my hotels early (especially with points or when the hotel is a great value) is due to the hotel industry’s super flexible refund policies. I’m sure this won’t last forever, but most chains have a pretty consumer-friendly policy. I’m happy to pay a few more dollars on checkout to ensure I don’t lose money if I have to cancel or if plans change.

Depending on the rates, it may make more sense to book cash or points stays. The Bottom Line
IHG has a sale going on now where you can get 25% off their best rate if you are an IHG Rewards member (and you should be!) or 20% off if you are not. While I wouldn’t necessarily go out of my way to book a hotel at this rate, especially since it’s nonrefundable, it could make sense if you have an upcoming IHG stay and this sale gives you a lower prices

I tried several hotels and wasn’t even close to a deal. They take the 20 percent off an inflated rate. One of the sleaziest things that I have encountered labeled as a “deal”, IHG should be ashamed. I spoke to customer rep and he pretty much confirmed that is 25 percent off a rack rate that virtually no one pays . The rate is buried in the details.
