ihgI love IHG Pointbreaks.  I’ve written about them before – how they are one of the best values in all of the hotel points game.  Every 2 months, IHG releases a select list of hotels that only cost 5000 points.

Lots of times you can get really nice hotels on these.  Most of the bloggers that I read about try to focus on the Intercontinental brand overseas, but for family travel, I really like the Staybridge Suites domestically.  They have suites, plus free breakfast and from Monday-Thursday, they have a “social hour” which often equates to free dinner too!  When traveling with 8, keeping food costs down is a necessity!

IHG did a daily getaway a week or so ago where you could buy their points cheap, plus they are currently offering a deal to buy their points for a 60% bonus.  So there may be a lot of people out there with IHG points waiting for this list.

Balancing that out is the new rule that they implemented, limiting you to only 2 redemptions per IHG account.

A preview of the list was posted in the IHG community forums (I got it via a tweet an hour or so ago).  Lucky at One Mile at a Time has a preview of some of the more aspirational hotels.  Personally I’ve got my eye on some of those Staybridge Suites.

I’ve actually been waiting for this list for awhile as I have a need for a hotel in a particular place in early August and was waiting to see if anything matched up.  Nothing is super convenient but we still may take advantage of it.  All of these PointBreak hotels are good for booking from July 28 – September 30.

I checked out the Staybridge Suites Dublin (Ohio, not Ireland 😀 ) this morning

staybridgedublinAs you can see, it was still showing 25,000 points which shows a) the rates aren’t loaded until Monday and b) what a good deal this is – you can get this for only 5,000 points!!!  Generally these are for the most basic rooms, but if you have elite status (which I got from my new IHG credit card), you may be able to try and swing an upgrade if you talk nicely.

Have you ever stayed on an IHG PointBreak hotel?
