The Southwest Companion Pass is one of the best travel deals out there. In fact, back in April when I wrote about the best travel deals out there, this is the only deal that I wrote about that is still out there! (RIP Club Carlson Bonus Award night and 4,500 Avios short-haul flights)
If you get 110,000 Southwest points in a single calendar year, you will earn Southwest Companion pass status, and for the rest of that calendar year and the next year as well, your companion flies free (well, not counting taxes), regardless of whether it’s an award booking or a points booking
How many times you can change your Southwest Companion pass companion
When I first heard of the Southwest Companion pass, there was a limit of 3 times that you could change your Southwest Companion Pass companion for the duration of having the Southwest Companion pass. In autumn of 2015, the Southwest website FAQ was changed to denote that you can change your Southwest Companion Pass companion three times PER year (so up to 6 changes)
You can change your designated companion and request issuance of a new Companion Pass up to three (3) times each calendar year that you maintain Companion Pass status. Any reservation with the current Companion Pass would need to be cancelled before changing your designated Companion. You can designate a companion through My Account on Southwest.com, but to change your companion you must call 1-800-435-9792. Please allow 21 business days for processing.
How to change your Southwest Companion pass companion
As mentioned, you can not change your Southwest Companion pass companion online. You can view your companion information online in the My Account section, but in order to change your Southwest Companion pass companion, you must call in to 1-800-435-9792
I chose Option 5 (Other options), and then none of the options seemed to make sense, so I just hit 0 to spoke to an operator in order to change my Southwest Companion Pass companion.
When the operator got on the phone, I told her that I wanted to change my Southwest Companion pass companion, and after asking for my Rapid Rewards number and verifying account details, she was able to change it immediately. Although the FAQ says it will take up to 21 days, changing my Southwest Companion pass companion was instantaneous – in fact, she was able to immediately add my Southwest Companion Pass companion to an existing reservation of mine.
Have you ever changed your Southwest Companion Pass companion? How did it go?

Did the same thing last Monday and received the new card one week later.
Cool! One important thing to note is that when you change your Southwest Companion Pass companion, you don’t actually need the physical card at all
Is it really true that I can change up to 6 times for my companions, 3 for 2016 and the other 3 in the next year? Thanks!
That is my understanding of the rules for the Southwest Companion Pass
