Okay, okay – I admit it. I’m a sucker for checking things off of lists!

Today’s list comes from TravelChannel.com and is the “50 Landmarks for the 50 states“.  It’s a 50 state slideshow (in the order each state got statehood, with their pick for the “best” landmark from each state (though I’m not sure how Louisiana got to be #1?!?!) 🙂

Here are the ones that I’d been to:

  • Mystic Seaport, CT
  • Plymouth Rock, MA
  • Wright Brothers Memorial, NC
  • Willis Tower, IL (pictured below out on the overhang ledge)

  • Gateway Arch, MO
  • Golden Gate Bridge, CA

  • Las Vegas Strip, NV
  • Mt. Rushmore, SD

  • Space Needle, WA (pictured above)

That’s 12 – though I’ve been pretty close to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and the Kentucky Derby is on my bucket list. I haven’t been to my own state’s “top” landmark (which is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum).  I blame the fact that it was built after I already left Cleveland.

We do have Sam’s report on the Mt. Washington Auto road (New Hampshire’s pick) and Ian’s 5 tips for visiting Crater Lake (Oregon’s pick)

So what do you say?  I’m sure someone out there can top 12 – let me know in the comments
