Continuing my series of random Ohio hotel reviews that most people don’t care about, it’s time for a Holiday Inn Express Tiffin Ohio hotel review
- Comfort Suites Hartville hotel review
- Trip report: Homewood Suites Dayton-Fairborn
- My complaint letter to Holiday Inn Express
- Hotel Review: Fairfield Inn Dayton North
- TownePlace Suites Columbus Airport Gahanna Ohio review
I know… I know… but we can’t all be staying in 5 star hotels all the time 😉
Holiday Inn Express Tiffin hotel location
The Holiday Inn Express Tiffin is located in Tiffin, Ohio (county seat of Seneca County!) on Shaffer Park Drive, right off of US-224.
It’s located about 10 minutes west of downtown and Heidelburg University and Tiffin University. This Tiffin Holiday Inn Express was built in 1999 so it’s newer than other similar hotels that I’ve stayed at.
Holiday Inn Express Tiffin Ohio price
The Holiday Inn Express hotel in Tiffin, Ohio is a Category 2 hotel, which means that it costs 15,000 IHG points per night
For the night that I was booking it (a Friday night in the summer) the cash rates were over $150 including tax if you booked the refundable rate, making this a value of over 1 cent per IHG points, a great redemption
You can compare prices for this hotel at HotelsCombined.com to see what the cash rates are for your stay, but you are likely to be better off with points – especially considering you can always buy IHG points for as low as 0.7 cents per point
Tiffin Ohio Holiday Inn Express room
The Holiday Inn express Tiffin Ohio review of the rooms (at least the room *I* was in) at the Holiday Inn Express Tiffin Ohio was… gigantic. I think this is the biggest Holiday Inn Express room that I’ve ever seen
It had a sitting area in addition to a large king bed.
Pull out sofa bed as well
And a small kitchenette with fridge and microwave
The bathroom was also huge (compared to other similar hotels that I’ve stayed at)
Holiday Inn Express Tiffin Ohio review – amenities
The Holiday Inn Express Tiffin Ohio does have an indoor swimming pool. We went in to the pool room for a brief moment but it was approximately 5,000 degrees in there, so we left quickly 🙂
The fitness center is also on the 1st floor, next to the swimming pool. There is just an elliptical machine and exercise bike, but there is also a weight bench with free weights
Unlike the Hyatt Place “charge you for everything” model, they did offer complimentary earbuds.
The other strange thing is that the fitness center had a deadbolt from the inside that you could lock other people out. I’m not sure why that would ever be a good idea?!?
Holiday Inn Express Tiffin Ohio review – food
The food at the Tiffin Holiday Inn Express was standard for most Holiday Inn Express hotels. There was a section with food, medicine, and toiletries available for purchase
Breakfast in the morning was complimentary and served in a small room off the front lobby.
It included cheese omelets, sausages, and of course, cinnamon rolls.
All in all, it was a very pleasurable stay. My only quibble is that I was not given a welcome amenity as a Platinum Elite member. I mean, this was not a huge deal, but if you’re going to advertise this as a member benefit, then I like you to stick with it! Again, not a huge deal, though I did get a little hungry at night and could have used the snack 🙂
I hope you’ve enjoyed my continuing series of random Ohio hotels 🙂 If you’re heading to Heidelburg University, Tiffin or other parts of north-central Ohio, I definitely would check out the Holiday Inn Express Tiffin Ohio

Who’s that creeping looking person in the window of the fitness room?! Oh wait, that’s me. ha ha ha
Nice review. I do a lot of random reviews like this on my blog. My wife and I both travel for business to random towns and stay at at TON of HIX hotels like this one. This one looks better than average. The major differences I find at most of these are the breakfast starting times, pool location (indoor vs outdoor) and fitness center 24 hour access. I always seems weird that most have moved to 6:30am breakfast or that they won’t allow fitness center use 24 hours a day. I assume the breakfast prep people don’t start until 6am?? I know it doesn’t seem like a big deal but I usually have to be on the road by 6:30 or 7am. I know first world problems.
Thanks and I agree. One thing that we’ve had places like this do (for sure Holiday Inn Express and Hampton Inn) is make up a “to-go” breakfast bag if you have to leave before the breakfast hours start. Obviously no hot stuff but at least it’s something
