Recently I went on a county trip with my son through Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama. It was a 4 day / 3 night trip and so we had 3 different hotel stays. Because we were driving most of the days, our hotel stays were quite a distance apart. Our first night we stayed at the Hampton Inn Chattanooga West / Lookout Mountain. A few days later, we had made our way through Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and then back into Tennessee. This time we stayed the night just south of Nashville at the Holiday Inn Express Murfreesboro Central.

While I know a Holiday Inn Express review is not always the “sexiest” hotel review, this Holiday Inn Express Murfreesboro Central hotel review can give you an idea of what to expect as we come out of COVID-19 and restrictions start loosening up.

Holiday Inn Express Murfreesboro Central Location

The Holiday Inn Express Murfreesboro Central is located at 165 Chaffin Place, Murfreesboro, Tennessee 37129. It is located just off Exit 78 of Interstate 24, a few miles south of the Interstate 840 loop. It’s in Murfreesboro, Tennesssee which is about 35 miles southeast of Nashville.

Holiday Inn Express Murfreesboro Central hotel review – Cost

I booked the Holiday Inn Express Murfreesboro Central on points. Cash rates range from $100 to $140 / night, and I spent 16,000 IHG Rewards points for our room. That gives a value of about 0.75 cents per point, which is slightly above average for a redemption of IHG points.  Of course cost in both cash and points will vary widely depending on the dates you’re booking for. And if you have the IHG Select credit card you’ll also get a rebate of 10% of your points back, which makes the cents per point even higher.

Holiday Inn Express Murfreesboro Central review – Room

We booked a room with 2 queen beds, which felt spacious. The beds themselves were nice to sleep in and the desk and chairs in the room were comfortable.

The bathroom was small but did the necessary, and the shower pressure was adequate. One minor issue was that there was not much hot water for the shower, which is unusual for a hotel. When I mentioned it at checkout they said maintenance had been working on it all morning. So I wouldn’t expect that to be an issue if you were staying there later.

Holiday Inn Express Murfreesboro Central WiFi and Amenities

Wifi is complimentary at the Holiday Inn Express Murfreesboro Central and was as fast as needed. Normally I try to do a wifi speed test when I’m preparing a review but I didn’t seem to do that for this hotel. But I also don’t have any remarks that it was out of the ordinary, so I am assuming that it was fine.

One amenity that we missed was the outdoor pool, which was closed either for maintenance or due to COVID. This was a disappointment as we had been looking forward to doing a bit of swimming. We had several long days of driving on this trip, and this was our last night of the trip and we had gotten to the hotel a little earlier in the day (night) than we had on the other nights for the possibility of taking a dip.

The fitness center was open and well-equipped.

One amenity that is relatively unusual for a Holiday Inn Express was a laundry machine in the lobby of the 2nd floor. And not only that, it isn’t coin laundry – there was no charge to use this washer and dryer as far as I could tell.

Holiday Inn Express Murfreesboro Tennessee Review – Food

Directly next to the front desk there was the usual pantry area where you could buy overpriced snacks and treats.

Breakfast was served in a fairly spacious area on the 1st floor directly behind the main lobby and front desk.

I visited the Holiday Inn Express Murfreesboro Central in May 2021, as COVID-19 precautions were beginning to loosen. I had called the hotel a week or so previously about breakfast and they mentioned that they were back to full breakfast. The only difference was that someone served the hot items. You could take any of the pre-packaged / to-go items yourself but if you wanted any of the eggs, bacon, sausage or cinnamon rolls, you just asked the breakfast attendant. The attendant on duty when I was there (Linda) was super friendly and a pleasure to interact with.

All in all, my Holiday Inn Express Murfreesboro Central hotel review is that it was a pleasant stay. It is conveniently located and a good redemption on points or on cash.
