Recently my son and I took a trip to Europe (mostly Denmark and Belgium). We spent 1 day in each of Antwerp, Bruges and Brussels in Belgium, and chose to spend 2 nights at the Holiday Inn Express Antwerp City North.
Holiday Inn Express Antwerp City North location
The Holiday Inn Express Antwerp City North is located just north of the main city center of Antwerp, Belgium. The address is Italielei 2a, Het Eilandje, 2000 Antwerp, Belgium. It is located just east of the harbor and I was told that it is nearby to the red light district. My son and I walked down to the Grote Markt and other sights in the city center in about 15-20 minutes.
Holiday Inn Express Antwerp City North parking
The Holiday Inn Express Antwerp North DOES have an attached parking garage. The cost is €17 per day but I was not charged for parking (maybe because it was an award stay)?
You enter an access code to enter the garage. When we first arrived, we followed the signs for the parking but then were told to enter the access code or “See registration”.
I had no way to get to registration and a car had gone behind me, blocking the way, so I just mashed 0s on the keypad and somehow that worked to open the gate 🙂
There are a small number of spots marked in the garage for Holiday Inn Express Antwerp North parking, and unfortunately, Hertz had given us a gigantic SUV even though I had rented a small car (SEE ALSO: Why you’re foolish to rent a “standard” car), which made it quite difficult to park in the spots provided.
Holiday Inn Express Antwerp City North price
The Holiday Inn Express Antwerp City North is a Category 2 IHG hotel, which means that it costs 15,000 IHG points per night. Definitely a cheap stay if you have IHG points. If you’re planning on transferring them from Chase, you’re likely to find a better deal if you book through the Ultimate Rewards portal, as cash rates are generally under €100, depending on your dates.
You can check cash rates at HotelsCombined to see the prices on your dates
Holiday Inn Express Antwerp City North room
We booked a standard room and received a room with 2 double beds, pictured below
The bathroom was small but functional. The door was one of those types that serves as both a door that separates the bathroom from the rest of the room AND a door that separates the toilet area from the rest of the bathroom (depending on how you open it). That always SOUNDS like it would work better than it actually does.
As a “valued Platinum member” (cough, cough), we were given a harborview room
Holiday Inn Express Antwerp City North food and drink
My son had been talking for DAYS (pretty much the entire trip) about how he was looking forward to eating the famous Holiday Inn Express cinnamon rolls. So we were slightly disappointed to get down to breakfast and find…. no cinnamon rolls
It was what I think of as a typical European breakfast, in that there were lots of breads, cheeses and meats, which was fine.
I asked about the cinnamon rolls, and the front desk agent said that there are different guidelines for Holiday Inn Express hotels in the US, UK and Europe. Apparently, in Europe they are not “allowed” to have any hot foods (his words). That mashes with what Ian found at the Holiday Inn Express Paris CDG Airport on his recent stay.
There was a REAL! BELGIAN! WAFFLE MAKER! which “surprisingly” tasted just like the waffles in every Motel 6 I’ve ever stayed at. I did enjoy the multilingual instructions on how to work it though.
There were juices also available, including one button for “multivitamin”. I tried that out and it was a juice of some sort – I couldn’t quite place the flavor.
Holiday Inn Express Antwerp City North amenities
There is a fitness center and indoor pool at the Holiday Inn Express Antwerpen North. In the lobby, there is a bar with seating
Here are the prices for the bar
There is also a snack area with various snacks and drinks. Again, as a “valued Platinum member” we were given a snack / drink coupon.

I just booked the Holiday Inn Express San Giovanni in Rome and according to the reviews they have many hot items.
Interesting. The guy at the HIX Antwerp led me to believe that was the “guideline” for all HIX hotels in Europe
