In 2024, we had a family trip booked to California and Yosemite National Park. We planned on flying into Oakland Airport (OAK). We had a late arrival scheduled, though after Delta’s Crowdstrike meltdown we ended up arriving even later. So after looking at a few options, we decided to book the Holiday Inn Express and Suites – Oakland Airport. The Holiday Inn Express and Suites – Oakland Airport is located at 66 Airport Access Road Oakland, California 94603. This is less than 1/2 mile from San Francisco Bay Oakland Airport, and is quite convenient to the airport. There is a Holiday Inn Express and Suites – Oakland Airport shuttle, which costs $10 per room (billed to your room) if you use it. You can also use the shuttle to take you to nearby locations, including the rental car center. We had taken an Uber to the hotel because due to Delta’s Crowdstrike meltdown we had flown into San Jose (SJC) and had to take an Uber (which Delta later reimbursed)

We ended up booking 2 rooms at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites – Oakland Airport, one with points and one with cash. Our cash booking at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites – Oakland Airport was $169.12, and our points booking was 28,000 points per night. That gives a cents per point (CPP) value of around 0.6 cents per point, which is about inline with how I value IHG points.

Holiday Inn Express and Suites – Oakland Airport review – room
We had reserved a room with 2 queen beds at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites – Oakland Airport, which was exactly what we got. Sorry for the dark pictures – it was 2:30 a.m. Pacific time (5:30 Eastern!) when we got there and nobody was in the mood for me to take a lot of time getting the lighting all set up 🙂
There was a small counter area at the front with a minifridge and microwave
The bathroom was also near the front of the room, with a toilet and small sink.
As well as a combo tub / shower.
Holiday Inn Express and Suites – Oakland Airport wifi and amenities
Wifi is complimentary in the lobby and in the guest rooms for IHG members. The Holiday Inn Express and Suites – Oakland Airport wifi speed was decent, though I did not get a picture of a speed test. There is not a Holiday Inn Express and Suites – Oakland Airport pool or separate business center, however there is a small computer and printer next to the front desk that is available for guests, if you need to print a boarding pass, directions or anything.
There is also a Holiday Inn Express and Suites – Oakland Airport fitness center with the basic equipment
Holiday Inn Express and Suites – Oakland Airport hotel review – parking
The Holiday Inn Express and Suites – Oakland Airport parking is in a small parking lot directly attached to the hotel. Because it is so close to the Oakland (OAK) airport, it does have a gate like if you were entering a parking garage. The Holiday Inn Express and Suites – Oakland Airport parking cost is $20 / night, which will be billed directly to your room. As I mentioned earlier, there is also a Holiday Inn Express and Suites – Oakland Airport shuttle, which costs $10 per use (per room, not per person). There is a small grace period on the parking charge – I walked over to the rental car center (about an easy 30 minute walk) to pick up our rental car and drove it back to the Holiday Inn Express and Suites – Oakland Airport hotel. We parked there for about 90 minutes while we were packing up and getting ready, and there was no parking charge.

The Holiday Inn Express and Suites – Oakland Airport is similar to that of many other Holiday Inn Express hotels in the United States. There was a decent sized breakfast area – the picture below is only about half of the area as it was fairly crowded and so I couldn’t get a picture without tons of people in the shot.
There were eggs, breakfast potatoes, sausage and bacon, and the bacon was VERY good (especially for a hotel breakfast).
And of course, the famous (at least in our family!) Holiday Inn Express cinnamon rolls!
There is also a small “market” with overpriced food near the lobby.

The Bottom Line – Holiday Inn Express and Suites – Oakland Airport hotel review
Overall this was a decent stay if you need an Oakland airport hotel. We were only here for a few hours after our incredibly late arrival and then leaving in the morning to drive down to Yosemite. Still, it was everything you are looking for in an airport hotel – comfortable beds, good breakfast and super convenient hotel. It is a bit unfortunate that there is a charge for the shuttle and parking, but I understand why it’s there. The Holiday Inn Express and Suites – Oakland Airport can definitely be a great option if you’re looking for a Oakland airport hotel.

Is there a reason that you have to spell out the full name of hotel every time that you reference something about the property in the description, e.g. The Holiday Inn Express and Suites – Oakland Airport parking is in a small parking lot directly attached to the hotel. Why couldn’t you have just written: The parking is in a small parking lot directly attached to the hotel?
I actually didn’t read all of the article because it was so annoying having to read the full name of the property so many times.
