I apologize in advance that this is a bit of a mini-hotel review. While I occasionally make exceptions, usually I don’t bother with doing full reviews of random hotels. I’ve just learned that generally people don’t get too excited about reading a Fairfield Inn Dayton North hotel review. With apologies to the 46 people that have come to my site to read the TownePlace Suites Columbus Airport Gahanna Ohio review post via Google Search this year :-). Usually I will still take pictures of the hotels just in case, but for my recent stay at the Hilton Doubletree Toronto Airport West, I knew we’d only be there for a short time so I didn’t bother. Of course, then afterwards due to a few (good) things that happened during our stay, I decided to at least do a mini Hilton Doubletree Toronto Airport West review

Hilton Doubletree Toronto Airport West location

The Hilton Doubletree Toronto Airport West is actually one of (at least) 4 different Toronto airport Hilton hotels.

The Hilton Toronto Airport and the Hilton Garden Inn share an airport shuttle and are very close to the airport. The Hilton Doubletree Toronto Airport West address is 5444 DIXIE Road. There is a Hilton Doubletree Toronto Airport (no West) at 925 DIXON Rd. So be careful which shuttle you’re getting on. The Hilton Doubletree Toronto Airport West is about a 10 minute drive from the airport.

Hilton Doubletree Toronto Airport West review – cost and price

The price range for the Hilton Doubletree Toronto Airport West ranged from $80 to $120 – check rates for your dates here. You can also read other hotel reviews for this hotel at TripAdvisor.

As you probably know, Hilton has moved away from a standard award chart and into more dynamic pricing, where the cost in Hilton points goes up and down with the cash price.

In my case, that helped quite a bit – instead of being a Category 4 for 30,000 Hilton points / night, we managed to snag 1 night for only 18,000 Hilton points.

Hilton Doubletree Toronto Airport West executive lounge

There is a Hilton Doubletree Toronto Airport West executive lounge, which was one of the reasons we chose to stay here. The Hilton Doubletree Toronto Airport West executive lounge hours are from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Hilton Doubletree Toronto Airport West executive lounge serves breakfast from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. and has an evening hors d’ouevres and alcohol from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Unfortunately our flight from Jamaica didn’t get in until the early evening and we didn’t get to the hotel until after 8p.m., so we missed the evening executive lounge hours. And our morning flight was super early as well, so we had to leave the airport at 5:40 so we missed the breakfast hours as well. As a Diamond guest, they did give us 2 coupons for breakfast in the hotel restaurant which we could have done instead of eating in the lounge. As I mentioned, we had to leave in the morning beforehand so we ate breakfast at the YYZ Priority Pass Premium Lounge instead.

My experience at the Hilton Doubletree Toronto Airport West

When we arrived at the YYZ Airport, we called the Hilton Doubletree Toronto Airport West phone number (905-624-1144) once we cleared customs (this was about 7:40p.m.). There was a phone tree option to be connected to the shuttle driver, and when I did, he said he’d be there in 10 or 15 minutes. After he arrived, it turned out that when he had called, he was actually heading on his way home and made a special trip to come get us; otherwise we’d have had to wait for 30 minutes or more.

When we checked in, I was surprised to be greeted as a Diamond guest. I had forgotten that the week before, I had taken advantage of the upgrade to the Hilton Aspire for 150,000 Hilton points which comes with instant Diamond status. We were of course greeted with a warm Doubletree cookie!

As I mentioned earlier, the executive lounge was closed, and when we mentioned missing out on that, they gave us 4 more cookies! 6 cookies for dinner – that’s what I’m talking about!!! 😀

a group of brown and white bags

After we were shown to our room on the 8th floor, about 15 minutes later, we heard a knock on the door. The front desk agent showed up with a huge basket of food that he had grabbed from the executive lounge – pretzels, yogurt, bananas, apples and more. I’m sure my Diamond status had something to do with that, but I was impressed with him going above and beyond!

The room was standard – just 2 beds and a desk. The beds were comfortable, and we didn’t get a chance to check out any of the other Hilton Doubletree Toronto Airport West amenities.

In the morning, we were told that the shuttle runs every 40 minutes to the airport.  We wanted to leave at 6 a.m. but the shuttle times were 5:40 a.m and 6:20 a.m. I thought a 6:20 shuttle would be fine for an 8:40 a.m. flight, but the shuttle driver scared us into taking the 5:40 shuttle, saying we needed 2-3 hours to get through the airport.  Ummmm no that did not turn out to be the case – we ended up killing time at the airport lounge for over an hour!

In any case, we had a good stay at the Hilton Doubletree Toronto Airport West and I would definitely stay here again.
