As part of our upcoming trip to Europe, we are staying one night at the London Hilton on Park Lane.  While normally I prefer the so-called “budget” hotels, for this trip, we decided to splurge 80,000 Hilton points for a night.

Email from the Guest Relations desk

A few days before we were scheduled to stay, I got an email

I am delighted to hear that you will be staying with us at the London Hilton on Park Lane on the 19th of September. As a valued HHonors member, we would like to know of any food and beverage preferences you may have, so that we are able to meet your needs. It will also be beneficial for us, if you know what time you are expecting to arrive at the hotel.

I have to say that the Super 8 in Warroad, Minnesota did NOT ask me about this prior to my stay…. Of course the Super 8 in Warroad, Minnesota doesn’t run for over $700 / night, either! 🙂

I told them that I didn’t really have any food or beverage preferences, and inquired about a possible upgrade (with my HHonors Gold status).  I also mentioned that we have an all-day tour out to Stonehenge booked for the day we’ll be checking into to the London Hilton on Park Lane and if it would be possible to store our bags there while we’re out.  Within minutes, BACK came the reply

Thank you very much for the reply regarding your upcoming stay with us. I am delighted to hear that you chose the London Hilton on Park Lane for your first trip to Europe and I am sure you will enjoy your time in London.

I could already upgrade you to one of our executive room on the higher floor with a nice view over London. You are certainly more than welcome to store your luggage with concierge before you head out to explore Stonehenge and beautiful Bath.

Sure enough – when I checked my reservation

I found that we had already been upgraded.  Score!

The London Hilton on Park Lane looks over Hyde Park as well as the city, and after talking it over with Carolyn, we decided that a city view would be better, so I asked if that would be possible

Reading your room preference I must say I guessed well and already allocated you on a high floor with a city view as it is my preferred view as well.

Definitely looking forward to our stay here!
