In addition to paid travel and credit card sign-up bonuses, another great way to earn points is through shopping portals. For those of you who may not know, shopping portals give you additional points for buying products through them.

Currently the only shopping portal offering bonus points on purchases is American Airlines, with their “Big Game” promotion.
American Airlines Big Game Promotion
This bonus runs from now until January 18th, and gives you 500 bonus American Airlines points when you spend $200+. That’s not as great as their promotion earlier in the year (spend $300 and earn 1,000 bonus points), but a bonus is a bonus, and if you planning on making a large purchase, it may make sense to buy through the American Airlines eShopping portal to earn more points.
Earning Points
On the promotion landing page, the website also gives you some sample places where you can shop and earn even more points per dollar on your portal purchases.
If you spend all $200 required at Nike, for instance, you’ll earn 12 points per dollar (2,400 points) plus the 500 points for the promotion, for a total of 2,900 points!
