We’ve written about this deal before but it appears to be back! It appears to be targeted but if so, it seems widely targeted.
Get 40% off when you use Capital One miles
The offer seems to vary depending on your Amazon account – other offers we’ve seen include:
- 30% off up to $30 off of $100
- 40% off up to $20 off of a $50 purchase
We looked into it some more and tried getting an Amazon gift card itself, but the deal wouldn’t work with an Amazon gift card. I was not targeted this time but in the past, I have tried it with other gift cards such as Lowe’s, Cheesecake Factory, and Uber. Here’s the catch, not all Amex Membership Rewards Account are targeted. I’ll share with you how you can check if you were targeted.

What to buy at Amazon
Of course the best thing to buy is something that you were already planning on buying! After all, even 40% of something you don’t need is a waste of 60% of your money 🙂
If you don’t have anything to buy, you could consider getting gift cards. Amazon gift cards typically don’t work but last time I did this, physical gift cards did work if they were sold by Amazon.com. If you’re a reseller, there are a few brands (Safeway, Lowe’s, etc) that would be profitable or you might get gift cards to a store that you use often.
More Ways To Save Money at Amazon
Amazon often has promotions where you can get a percentage or dollar value off a purchase by using at least 1 credit card point (like Chase Ultimate Rewards, American Express Membership Rewards, etc). These deals are typically targeted, but it’s a good idea to regularly check if you’re eligible, because these deals come around quite a bit. Note that it is generally a bad value to use your points to shop at Amazon, but it’s definitely worth using 625 points to save $20.
- Save at Amazon using 1 Amex Membership Rewards point
- Save at Amazon using 1 Capital One mile
- Save at Amazon using 1 Chase Ultimate Rewards point
- Save at Amazon using 1 Citi ThankYou point
- Save at Amazon using 1 Discover point
