I got an email last night that the Ebates shopping portal is offering double cashback (up to 25%) at select merchants to celebrate Green Monday

I had no idea what “Green Monday” was but apparently it was coined by eBay a few years ago when they realized they had an uptick of sales on the 2nd Monday of December – supposedly the last day that people could buy something and still have it delivered by Christmas.

If you don’t know how Ebates (or shopping portals) work, basically you go to Ebates, and they have a cashback amount for every merchant.  As long as you click through to the merchant from Ebates, you should get the applicable percentage in cashback into your Ebates account (after a couple of weeks).  So let’s say you were going to buy a new basketball at Dick’s Sporting Goods (at 3% cash back).  It cost $43.21 after tax – you’d earn $1.30 into your Ebates account after a few weeks.

Although it’s advertised as “up to 25% off” it looks like most of the deals are just double cashback.  Some of the better deals are Walmart at 2% (usually 1%) and Amazon at 5% (though only certain categories are 5% – others are 3% or no bonus at all).  Also Kohl’s, Old Navy and Office Depot at 4% or eBay at 4% as well

Typically (but not always) gift cards are excluded – check the fine print.

Combine with $25 Ebates referral promo?

Currently Ebates is offering a promotion of $25 if you refer a friend (the new friend gets a $10 bonus).  So if you haven’t signed up, or know a friend or family member who hasn’t, now would be a good time!  Thanks in advance if you use my Ebates referral link, and you can share your links on our dedicated post at the PWaC miles and points Facebook group
