Chase recently sent out a targeted offer to some Southwest card holders. Use this to lock in some coveted Rapid Rewards and get closer to your Companion Pass next year! (Hopefully you’ll actually get to use it…)

Check your email for the subject line: “You deserve it! [Name], announcing 5 total Rapid Rewards® points on grocery store and gas station purchases with your Southwest Rapid Rewards® Credit Card.” I received the offer on both my Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards Plus and Premier cards. Spend up to $1,500 per month in August or September on groceries and gas, and receive 5x Rapid Rewards. It’s a little late now for August, but you can easily snag 7,500 Rapid Rewards per card for September!

Activating is easy once you locate the email – 1 click. As with all of these offers, there’s a ton of fine print. It boils down to this:

  • Chase relies on the merchant category code (so Costco and Walmart likely won’t count for gas or groceries, etc.)
  • Please allow 8 weeks for bonus points to post, though this is typically much faster in reality.
  • Eligible purchases don’t include any cash-like transactions.

My Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier card will be my go-to for groceries through September.  Since I don’t have access to Ultimate Rewards, I have to earn my Rapid Rewards the hard way. I typically swipe my AmEx Gold for groceries, but I’d value 5x Rapid Rewards pretty close to 4x Membership Rewards, especially since I have a surplus of the latter.

Although my gas bill has gone down a bit, I’m still cooking a lot at home. Time to earn some Rapid Rewards!
