American Express is aggressively expanding their Centurion Lounge network.  (Just search “centurion” on Points With a Crew, and you’ll see what I mean!)  Now, they’ve just announced plans to build a Centurion lounge at London’s Heathrow Airport.

Centurion Lounge LHR

AmEx has just released plans to build Europe’s first Centurion lounge in London’s Heathrow airport.  Heathrow is the largest airport in the London area, home to about double the passenger traffic of London-Gatwick, the second largest airport in the region.  If you’re flying internationally into London, chances are you’re landing at LHR (unless you’re flying an LCC).

The new Centurion lounge will be located after security checkpoints in Terminal 3.  Terminal 3 at LHR houses many long-haul international flights, including most of the oneworld alliance, Delta, and Garuda Indonesia.  Expect to see all of the typical Centurion lounge amenities – showers, locally inspired food and drinks, quiet workstations and a lively bar – spread across 7,000 square feet.  In my experience, that’s a bit small for a Centurion lounge, but I’m hoping it’ll be a bit less busy across the pond.

Check Out the Pop Up Lounge!

To celebrate the new Centurion Lounge, AmEx will be opening a short-term pop-up lounge in the city.  From December 13 to December 16 from 11:00am to 6:00pm, stop by London’s Covent Garden (address Unit 6, Langley Street) for some great snacks and fantastic service.  Need a break from holiday shopping?  This is the place for you!  The pop-up Centurion Lounge will offer complimentary bites and beverages, gift wrapping services, and phone charging stations.  Just like the regular airport Centurion lounges, Platinum and Centurion cardholders will be granted access along with up to two guests, at no charge.

Those signature blue doors! The more you travel, the more they feel like home.

American Express has expanded their Centurion footprint quite a bit this year!

If you don’t have a Platinum card yet, and are traveling to one of these cities soon, think about getting one!  While a bit crowded during peak travel times, the food and beverages at Centurion lounges are top notch, and you should be able to find a comfortable chair to pull up to.

If you’ll be in London next week, let us know how the pop-up Centurion lounge is!
