If you have a cash back credit card with 5% rotating categories, one of things you look forward to every three months is seeing what those sweet, sweet 5% cash back categories will be. Today, let’s take a look at the Discover it Q4 2017 categories and where you’ll be earning the extra cashback.

Discover It Q4 2017 categories

For the upcoming quarter, you’ll get 5% bonus Discover It cashback at Amazon.com and Target. You can earn up to $75 cashback, which is total spending of $1,500. For those of you who are missing the Chase Freedom “old standby” of Amazon in the fourth quarter, it may be time to add the Discover it to your credit card arsenal. Both Amazon and Target should be easy go-to locations for Q4 shopping, and if you don’t think you’ll max out the spending requirement organically, you can always buy gift cards and use them throughout the year.

The competition

This is the second post in this series, as we already know what the Chase Freedom plans to offer in the fourth quarter of 2017. You can check out those bonus categories here. Check back tomorrow for bonus categories on the Citi Dividend (Don’t hold your breath!).

Discover it Q4 2017 Categories Reminder

Something to note if you are thinking about getting the Discover It card is the double cashback in your first year of card membership. Per the Discover it website, “Discover automatically matches all the cash back you earn dollar for dollar at the end of your first year. Only for new cardmembers.” Basically, if you spend $1,500 at Amazon or Target during the fourth quarter Discover cash back categories, you’ll get $150 back, rather than $75. You’ll get the $75 back during the fourth quarter, and the second $75 will be applied at the end of your first year as a cardmember. Not too shabby!
