Finding value in Best Western points
Best Western doesn’t publish an award chart. But reward nights range from 8,000 points to 36,000 points per night, in increments of 4,000 points. There are some high value redemption opportunities with Best Western Rewards points. But it all depends on where and when you travel.
Paid rooms at Best Western hotel in the U.S. are often very cheap! Using points might not be worth it in most cases, even at a discount. Personally, I have never stayed at a Best Western hotel. But Dan and his family stayed at Best Western in Indianapolis in 2015 and it was nice, even though it took 5 (FIVE!) tries to get them to honor their Best Rate Guarantee. Since there were 8 of them and they needed 2 rooms, they booked the other room on points – 12,000 points in comparison to a room rate that was about $80.
Outside the U.S., it is a different story. Over 50% of Best Western hotels are located overseas. Best Western’s international hotels are where you could find the best value for its points. For example, at Hotel Kung Karl in Stockholm Sweden, a member of BW Premier Collection, one night in June will cost 36,000 points, just below $200 if using points purchased today. But if you pay cash, the nonrefundable rate will be 2,315 SEK, or about $255 before taxes and fees.
You can find similar savings at Best Western hotels in Paris, London, and other cities all over Europe.
Conclusion
There are value to be had with Best Western points, most are for hotels located outside of U.S. And it also depends when and where you will be traveling.

Hi Sharon
Thought ill share my 2 cents. Best Western last year came out with a promo where you could book any BW hotel with 10k flat rate. That is where these points could come in handy lets see (if they came out with a similar promo again) but i agree you should not just buy the points without any plan.
In my case BW suits me, because i have few visits coming up near Yosemite national forest with family this summer and i can see myself using these points, and get good value out as compared of paying cash for those high time specially the Memorial Day weekend. Also majority of national forests around the USA have a lot of Best Westerns. They are hard to earn specially if you don’t have their credit card and unfortunately not affiliated with any transfer partner too. In the end its YMMV
Thank you for the article.
Leo
Yeah that was an amazing deal and if I knew they were going to run that promo again I’d be much more interested in these points!
The 10,000 point promo was only for BW hotels in North America. Still a great promo though. Hope it comes back again.
