It’s almost the end of December, which means it’s time for the next quarter of 5% cashback! Have a Chase Freedom? Earn 5% back at Gas Stations, Select Streaming Services, and Internet, Cable, and Phone Services this quarter, up to $1,500 maximum. Here’s the best part – for most of you, that 5% is really 5x Ultimate Rewards. Super useful for transferring to airline partners and booking travel on the Chase portal.
Gas stations is a common category for 5% cards, but even more common for good regular rates on other cards. Meaning, this may not be that exciting for you, even if you spend a lot on gas. Consider the Costco card for 4% cashback on gas worldwide.
Streaming services is a newer category, but we see it more and more now on the 5% cards. For Chase, they include Netflix, Hulu, Sling, Vudu, FuboTV, Apple Music, SiriusXM, Pandora, Spotify, YouTube and ESPN+. Interesting to not see Disney+ on the list, but I have to assume it’s only since the service is so new. While you may not get the 5% automatically, I’m willing to bet you could call in and get the bonus cashback added to your account.
Internet, Cable, and Phone Services should work for 5% back on all the big name providers that we use. This is another category that is common among cards, but hopefully you can pay your next bill with your Chase Freedom to earn a bit more bang for your buck.

Tips for Maximizing the Chase Freedom First Quarter Cashback
- If your local gas station will accept credit cards for payment of gift card purchases, consider prepaying some expenses. Pick up a gift card to Home Depot for that next home improvement project, or a gift card to AMC Theatres or Regal Cinemas for date night. (Consider shopping around for a better rate on your gift cards though!)
- You can always prepay your expenses – cable, satellite, phone, and streaming services.
Full Offer Terms
Merchants in the gas stations category sell automotive gasoline that can be paid for either at the pump or inside the station, and may or may not sell other goods or services at their location. Merchants that do not specialize in selling automotive gasoline are not included in this category; for example, truck stops, boat marinas, oil and propane distributors, and home heating companies. Eligible streaming services include: Netflix, Hulu, Sling, Vudu, FuboTV, Apple Music, SiriusXM, Pandora, Spotify, YouTube and ESPN+. Only purchases for internet, cable, satellite television and radio, cellular, wireless data, and landline services will qualify. Purchases of equipment are not included. If you purchase or pay for your internet, cable and satellite television, phone or related services in a merchant’s store that is not classified by the merchant in the applicable services category, the purchase or payment will not qualify; for example, phone bill payments in a merchant’s store that is classified as a telephone equipment store.
