Yesterday I was one of the first to break the news that the Chase Freedom has a Refer-a-friend bonus that most existing Freedom cardholders are eligible for.

Chase Sapphire Preferred Referral bonus
As I usually do, I started checking my other Chase cards and found that the Chase Sapphire Preferred Referral bonus is also back! The offer that you’ll get for signing up for the Chase Sapphire Preferred is below:
So you’ll get 40,000 bonus Ultimate Rewards if you spend $4,000 in the first 3 months of opening the account. Note that it is an increased signing requirement (it used to be only $3,000 in spend).
You’ll also get an additional 5000 points for adding an authorized user and having that user make a purchase in the first 3 months. You do get 2x points on travel and dining at restaurants and can transfer it to all of the Chase Ultimate Rewards partners, including United, Southwest, Hyatt, Singapore and more

There is an annual fee of $95, which is waived the first year.
Chase refer-a-friend link
If you already have a Chase Sapphire card like I do, you can check to see if you are also eligible for a Chase refer a friend bonus at chasereferafriend.com.
They have done this before with other Chase cards, and it works the same. You can get your own “affiliate” link if you are eligible. I’ve found that the easiest way to get your own Chase refer a friend URL is to click on the Share Twitter or Share Facebook link which will give a popup with your link.
For each person that signs up with your link, you will earn 5000 Ultimate Rewards points, with a maximum of 10 referrals or 50,000 Ultimate Rewards points. Fine print states:
There are also a few other cards that are offering current refer a friend bonuses.

Does anyone have any experience with getting these bonuses after closing their accounts? I’ve always assumed your own account must be open and in good standing at the time they try to credit the bonus to you, but recently my wife got a refer-a-friend offer for the United Explorer card that she cancelled several months ago. That made me re-think my assumption. Any thoughts?
