If you have a cash back credit card with 5% rotating categories, one of things you look forward to every three months is seeing what those sweet, sweet 5% cash back categories will be. Today, let’s take a look at the Chase Freedom Q3 2017 categories for the third quarter of 2017 and where you’ll be earning the extra cashback.

Chase Freedom Q3 2017 Categories

Chase Freedom 5% cashback categories

For the upcoming quarter, you’ll get 5% bonus Chase Freedom cashback at restaurants and movie theaters. You can earn up to $75 cashback, which is total spending of $1,500. Activation of this category is live now, so click on over to your Chase account now! You can do so here.

If you are able to maximize the Chase Freedom Q3 2017 bonus categories ($1,500 in spending in the above 5% bonus categories), you’ll get 7,500 Ultimate Rewards points. Generally, these are worth one cent a piece, but if you also have a premium Chase card, like the Sapphire Preferred or the Sapphire Reserve, you can use those points for travel through the Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall for 1.25 cents each with the Sapphire Preferred or 1.5 cents with the Sapphire Reserve. In my opinion, the best use of Ultimate Rewards points is transferring them to Chase’s partners, like Southwest, United, or British Airways.

The competition

We already know what the Discover it and Citi Dividend are planning to offer to compete against the Chase Freedom categories in the third quarter. Sadly, there is some overlap with the Discover it; however, the Citi Dividend has no overlap with the Chase Freedom Q3 2017 categories.

Discover it: restaurants

Citi Dividend: Hilton hotels and airlines

Conclusion

On the whole, the Chase Freedom Q3 2017 categories can be really beneficial, especially if you dine out a lot. Make sure to active your cashback today!
