There are not very many avenues to pay utilities and other recurring bills with a credit card (and thus earn miles) for free. And with recent changes to the banking landscape, there are not very many (if any) ways to earn miles by paying bills with a debit card.
I’ve written before about how I have used Plastiq to pay my mortgage and earn thousands of frequent flier miles. But even that comes with a 2% fee and is only (somewhat?) offset by the AT&T Access and More credit card which earns 3x ThankYou points
Using RadPad to pay your rent for free
RadPad is a site that lets you pay your rent with a credit card. Normally it charges a 3.49% fee (which makes it generally not worthwhile), but they are currently running a promotion through the end of 2016 that lets you pay your rent with NO service fee!
To take advantage of this promotion, here are the steps that you need to do
- Make sure you have the Android Pay app on your phone.
- Add a credit card from a participating bank to your Android Pay account.
- Open the RadPad App and select Pay My Rent
- Add your landlord’s name and where you’ll send your check
- Pick your charge date and select Android Pay Credit Card
Reports that I have seen indicate that they are pretty strict about the “rent” part, so I think it is not likely that you’ll be able to pay your mortgage, utilities or other bills through this promotion.

Can you pay “rent” to yourself/spouse?
Over on the slack channel, we were talking about that. I think it would not be easy to set up
Tried signing up for RadPad about 1.5 years ago, and they first demanded address verification— I submitted a utility bill from the place where we had been renting. This was not enough evidence for RadPad.
Then RadPad asked for further identity verification. I provided them with my U.S. Passport [as a data point, I’m also a TSA Trusted Traveler]. Apparently my U.S. Passport *PLUS* my utility bill was not enough evidence to prove who I was.
After this RadPad asked for my Social Security number. I reluctantly provided this to them. For yer a 3rd time, RadPad had once again claimed they could not verify my identity.
After jumping through all these hoops, RadPad still claimed they could not verify my identity *EVEN* with my Social Security number.
Previously had used WilliamPaid for paying rent and had *ZERO* issues with the company, and then, sadly, the company went belly up. Also have used Plastiq flawlessly with *ZERO* issues. Neither WilliamPaid, nor Plastiq required me to jump through any of the hoops that RadPad required.
Avoid RadPad at *ALL* costs!!
If you sign up for Plastiq via my referral link, they’ll waive the credit card processing fee for payments using Visa, Mastercard, and American Express, on your first payment amount– on up to a $200 USD payment amount:

I looked into Plastiq which charges 2% of the mortgage payment. Which credit card should I use to be worth the 2% extra cash I am paying?
I wrote a post all about it (linked above). I use the ATT Access&More card
