Summer fares to Hawaii are uncommon, so these fares are a surprise. Numerous airlines have flights to Hawaii for under $400 from several California cities, as well as Phoenix. These fares extend into early fall, and while departures are only mid-week, late Thursday to Monday round trips are available for a long weekend getaway. Fares included:
- San Jose to Honolulu and Maui from $295 (American)
- Oakland to Maui from $295 (AA) and Honolulu from $303 (Delta)
- Burbank to Maui from $351 and Honolulu from $355 (United)
- San Diego to Honolulu and Maui from $355 (Delta)
- Phoenix to Honolulu and Maui from $355 (United)
American’s fares are the best deal here: AA is offering main cabin economy, which includes seat selection though not checked bags. Delta’s and United’s fares are basic economy which doesn’t include seat choice, and United doesn’t include a carry-on. Buying up for Delta is $90 round trip, $60 for United. With the advent of basic economy main cabin fares it’s incredible to get a $300 main cabin fare so act quickly.

This is not peak summer but actually low season fares which generally dip into the $250-400 range. So nothing special here except for timing (usually sales starts mid- summer).
Also there is some value to paying extra for aUnited nonstop rather than time expense and potential misconnect on 1-stop
The most special is probably the main cabin fare at <$300. With basic now the rule, it's extremely hard to find seat selection to Hawaii at that price at any time, much less in the summer (peak or not).
