It’s been nice to be able to plan my first road trip since the COVID-19 pandemic started a few months ago. After staying one night at a hotel near the Portland Airport, I dropped my son off for his church mission and then headed out on the road.

As you may already be aware, I am trying to visit all 3,143 counties in the United States, and so this seemed like a great opportunity to get a few counties in southern Oregon and northern California. After a long day of driving, I pulled up to the Best Western Rory and Ryan Inn around 10 p.m. Check-in was quite simple and I was able to head back to my room within minutes.
Best Western Rory and Ryan Inn location and pricing
The Best Western Rory and Ryan Inn is located at 534 Highway 20 N, Hines, Oregon 97738. US Route 20 is the main drag through Hines, Oregon, and the larger neighboring city of Burns, Oregon. There are actually only two points hotels available in the area, so there weren’t a ton of options when looking for a place to stay. I booked a cash stay which was $111.36 after taxes, and I paid with a gift card that I had previously earned with a Best Western Best Rate Guarantee claim.

The points cost is 16,000 Best Western points, which would have been a value of 0.7 cents per point had I used points. I never know quite how, when, or where to use my Best Western points, but I would have probably opted to use the points if I hadn’t had the gift card that covered the balance of the stay.
COVID-19 at the Best Western Rory and Ryan Inn
I visited the Best Western Rory and Ryan Inn in September 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, there were a few things that were different than they might be if you were here previously or are staying after COVID. Masks are required at the Best Western Rory and Ryan Inn in all places, and the breakfast situation is slightly different.
The indoor swimming pool is still open, though I did not visit it.
Best Western Rory and Ryan Inn room
I had a standard king room at the Best Western Rory and Ryan Inn. There were sufficient pillows and the bed was quite comfortable.
There is also a TV and microwave, with a small desk and chair for working.
Best Western Rory and Ryan Inn food
The Best Western Rory and Ryan Inn does offer complimentary breakfast, though it has been slightly modified in COVID times. There is a limit of 20 people in the breakfast room and there is no self-service. Instead, you wait in a (socially distanced) line for the attendant to serve your food. I chose to take my food back up to my room rather than sit and eat in the breakfast room.
On my way out in the morning, I also stopped by the front desk for a “Grab and Go” bag. I have seen some hotels that have these bags out by the front desk, so that you can truly grab them and go. In this case, I had to ask about them, and the worker at the front desk went back into the back room and seemingly assembled it for me. It had a variety of fruit, a water bottle and pre-packaged pastries / fruit bars.
Best Western Rory and Ryan Inn amenities
The business center at the Best Western Rory and Ryan Inn is in the lobby and consists of a computer and a printer at a desk.
As mentioned the Best Western Rory and Ryan Inn has an indoor pool and hot tub which is still open.
Pets are not accepted at the Best Western Rory and Ryan Inn.
Best Western Rory and Ryan Inn wifi speed
The Best Western Rory and Ryan Inn offers complimentary wifi, and the speed that I measured while I was there was okay.
Overall, this was a great stay for a great price at the Best Western Rory and Ryan Inn and I would stay here again next time I’m in the area.
