Cardholders of the American Express Platinum® card have an Amex Platinum concierge service which can help cardholders procure tickets, deals or just about anything.  Many people have used the Amex Platinum concierge service to get tickets to the soldout show Hamilton.  Cardholders of the Citi Prestige® card have a similar service called the Citi Concierge service

But what happens when you compare the Amex Platinum concierge vs the Citi concierge service in a head to head matchup?  Reader samm on the Points With a Crew miles and points Slack channel did this recently, and I thought his experience of the Amex concierge vs Citi Prestige® concierge service would be worth sharing
Amex Platinum concierge vs Citi Concierge service – head to head showdown
According to Sam (lightly edited)
About 2 weeks ago I gave the same request to the Amex Platinum Concierge and the Citi Prestige Concierge. I wanted them to find me a reasonably priced gymnasium to rent for an upcoming private game of ultimate frisbee for a friend’s birthday. At first, I was upset at Citi because I heard nothing for days, even though they said 24-48 hours max response time.
I called the Citi Prestige concierge service and they said they were working on it. Meanwhile, Amex sent me a nice little email every 2 days saying they were still working on it.
Well Friday was the deadline I had set because I wanted to get this thing booked before Christmas. On that day, I had another email from the Amex Platinum concierge service saying “I’m sorry, but I wasn’t able to find anywhere with availability for you. Happy birthday to your friend.” Friendly enough, but not a great outcome.
The Citi concierge I hadn’t heard a peep from, then on Friday morning I get a phone call. “Hi, I’m Steve calling from the Prestige Concierge in North Carolina. My shift doesn’t start for about 4 hours, but I know you need this today and I just heard back from the guy I’ve been waiting from so I wanted to get this to you right away!” Long story short, the Citi Prestige concierge found a gym. Got it booked and paid for today. Maybe I should’ve set a more close-in deadline because it was prioritized lower or something?
Either way, props to the Citi concierge service on this one. They delivered what the Amex Platinum concierge service couldn’t in a direct head-to-head challenge.
So it looks like the Citi concierge service won this head to head showdown with the Amex Platinum concierge service.
Readers – have you ever used the Amex Platinum concierge or the Citi concierge service? Â What has your experience been like?

Nice post I was just thinking about contacting the AMEX concierge and you reminded me that I can do the same with Citi. Do you know the email address for the concierge services? I didn’t think you could email AMEX for anything anymore, which I hate!
I am not sure that really meets the test given one task. Why not follow up with one or two more to make it fair to both parties? Simply doing this and then publicizing it i don’t think it’s overly professional. We have enough questionable news going on the internet these days.
AMEX Concierge was able to do the following:
Get me a set of 4 tickets to the sold out Book of Mormon in Buffalo.
Get me excellent tickets to the WHO in Toronto
Get my wife tickets to Paul McCartney in Buffalo.
All three events were sold out, and we were 3 for 3 – no issues.
I called the Citi concierge to book me four nights at the Hyatt Churchill using the Citi Prestige 4th night free benefit. She said their computers were down but would be back to me within 24 – 48 hours. I never heard back. Pretty much useless.
I rest my case
I have found AmEx concierge to be useless for restaurant reservations. 0 for 3.
Hello. I’m new to the Platinum Card. What other requests have been made to the Concierge Services. When asking for tickets do you place a cap. I think Andrea Bocelli is great, tickets are ways sold out at my price range but I’m sure $1000 each tip are available, just not something I want to shell out. The idea of renting out a gymnasium was nice to know. Thank you. Never would have called to ask for such requests.
Just gotta say… although this happened years ago, I’m still amazed with Amex concierge services: I was in London, extremely sick and couldn’t get the energy to do anything but call Amex concierge. They got my doctor on the phone, helped coordinate getting an antibiotic prescription to the local pharmacist, and then got the hotel bell captain to pick it up and deliver it to my room. No fees involved.
I have not.
I agree with ghost rider on here — Judging who is best from one experience is not a wise thing. Particularly considering that Citi does not have the best reputation in service.
I have had had very few experiences with Citi since 1992 so I cannot comment much except to say that my experiences were so bad I dropped my cards with them at that time.
I have been an American Express Card holder since 1976 – 40-plus years (still have my original card) and they have been like family.
I could sit here and give a thousand examples of where they have done things for me, either simple things (Doctor referrals in Africa) or because I was in a jam someplace (stolen passport and cards in Vietnam), and my thanks to them would not be enough.
In forty-some years, I have had no more than ten, maybe 12, charge disputes or issues, and each and everyone was settled promptly, and to my complete satisfaction.
When you stop and think about it, that is a remarkable and unparalleled record and of achievement that VERY FEW companies can match.
I am including concierge services in this post as well. Whether the request was simple or complicated, they handled it quickly, efficiently, happily and usually with a reasonable cost. One example of recent, I was in Atlanta and wanted to get into a well-known and beloved steak place, and they got me in for that evening. Not too difficult ? This place was not even associated with their dining program, yet they still made the call for me and got me in for that evening with less than three hours notice.
For all these years, I have listened to or read the debates about all aspects of customer service, including concierge services, and from my perspective, no one rates with American Express. JMO.
Can this be updated with new requests to concierge. Looking to dump Amex Platinum and go with either Chase or Citi
I have been an Amex Platinum card member since 1990 and I am Citibank gold member who has a wealth management banker. NO comparison between Amex concierge and Citi Concierge. NO comparison. Amex platinum concierge is the concierge service who just does what you can do. If you call a restaurant and is being said “NO table”, Amex gets same and nothing more. (Centurion =black card concierge could be different) But Citi gold concierge blows me away. AMAZING. I could not book a Japanese famous restaurant in Tokyo(TOKYO SHIBA TOFUYA UKAI UKAI ) – AMAZING beautiful place, which anyone could not book from Japan and my peers asked me to book from New York (they said sometimes Japanese restaurants give priorities to foreigners overseas) but I also could not myself, but somehow Citi did it. I dont know how. They booked a beautiful private room for us. I asked “how???” They said “we have a resource there” …. and tonight I also called as a last resort to book a hotel for my daughter’s swim championships. This hotel is only one nice one in the area and it was totally booked on ANY SITES including the hotel’s site. Since many already book the hotel due to the championships. BUT THEY DID it again. I dont know how. AMAZING. They make an impossible possible. You feel like a real special client.
