People that know me know that I am a sucker for “lists” and checking things off of them. Â It’s one of the reasons that I am trying to visit all 3,143 counties in the United States.
Top 250 Global attractions list
The other day I came across a site that had picked out the “Top 250” Global attractions. Â “Top 250” is in quotation marks because any type of list like that is fraught with bias, since one man’s kitschy tourist trap is another man’s bucket list item
[4 corners monument: bucket list worthy or total rip-off?]
[The 28 worst tourist traps out there; #5 is the worst]
My rank at the Top 250
I ended up with 50 out of the 250, which I would imagine is a fairly low score. Â Here were the 50 that I had been to

I’m at 103. There are a lot on the list that I want to see.
That was more fun checking boxes and reminiscing that I expected. By coincidence I also scored 50, with a lot of overlap with your list but a few variances. Mainly this reminded me of three things:
1) So many incredible places still to see just in my home continent, North America. I have to get busy seeing them since it’s so much easier than the big international trips.
2) A handful of my 50 hits on that site were not much more than drive-by experiences when I was younger, and I would like to revisit nearly all of them now that I can better appreciate them.
3) About half of the remaining 200 on that guy’s site appeal to me, but like others I could add another 200 that I want to see. I should start packing probably.
120/250 and I may’ve missed a couple.
I love checking out the UNESCO World Heritage List when visiting new places, been to 107 so far.
Yeah – I track my UNESCO heritage sites as well
61 May have missed some
128. There were more sights listed with which I was unfamiliar than I expected. I’ve got some research to do 🙂
134. Way too many places in London but Greenwich not included. Surprised also that Kruger National Park is not there.
I hit 153. It was kind of fun to look over the list but it would be nice if they spelled out the criteria for inclusion or omission. The Hollywood sign? The Little Mermaid? Both in the top 10? Mannekin-Pis, which you have to search for in Brussels, and is something of a joke, but not the magnificent Grand Place which every visitor sees?
Yeah – any list like this is fraught with bias. I don’t think the 250 are ranked in order though
111 – should knock off another couple dozen by June.
Just 43 for me but always find these interesting.
I’m at 50 – most of the sites were within a few hours of London so I think that upped my number as I visited quite a few when I lived there.
Still have 200 more to go!
I always like these lists because I can then look at more places to visit 🙂
I’m at 113.
I have been to 150 of these. Could be a few more, but definitely at least 150. There’s no way these are ranked.
