In my opinion, there are 3 different types of credit cards that are

  1. Cards to get for their signup bonus (just about every card IMO)
  2. Cards to get for their annual benefits (IHG free anniversary nights)
  3. Cards to get because of their bonus spending categories (hello 5x at office supply stores from the Chase Ink)

The Citi AT&T Access More card had a good signup bonus (discontinued) and it does have an annual benefit for 10,000 ThankYou points for spending $10,000 on the card (though that just offsets the $95 annual fee)

Where the Citi AT&T Access More card shines however is in the 3rd category because it gives 3x ThankYou points at online retailers.  This includes Plastiq (which I use to pay my mortgage for “free” money)

How to get the Citi AT&T Access More card

Back in the day, the AT&T Access More card came with a signup bonus of a “free” phone up to $650 after meeting your minimum spend.  But recently, Citi took down all of the signup application links for the Citi AT&T Access More card, so it’s not currently possible to sign up for the Citi AT&T Access More card as a new application.

A few months ago, I wrote an article about how you COULD still get the Citi AT&T Access More card, by converting / product changing a different Citi card to the AT&T Access More cards

Datapoints from people not being able to convert to an AT&T Access More

Since I wrote that original article back in August, I’ve seen data points from people on the Points With a Crew miles and points Slack channel, to other online forums and blog comments saying that they were not able to product change various Citi cards to the AT&T Access More card.

How I product changed to an AT&T Access More card (this week)

I signed up for the AT&T Access More card earlier this year, but it very annoyingly came with only a $1000 credit limit (seriously!), so it’s made using it quite difficult.  Earlier this week, I decided to close one of my Citi Hilton cards.

On the phone with Citi, I thought I would first check to see if I could instead product change to the AT&T Access More card instead… and it worked!

Here are the secrets for how I was able to product change to an AT&T Access More card…. just kidding – there are no secrets.  It was super easy!

I didn’t do anything special – I told her what I wanted, and a brief hold she came back and started reading me all the standard disclosures – annual fee (mmhmm), please destroy all your cards (mmhhmmkay) and make sure to stop any automatic payments (will do).  She was also very excited about wanting me to do a balance transfer (no thanks)

So…. I just wanted to give this data point for people that are saying that it can’t be done – this may be a situation for you to try HUCA (Hang Up, Call Again)

Do you have any data points on product changing / converting another Citi card to the AT&T Access More card?  Leave them in the comments
