The online application for the Chase Sapphire Reserve is now live. If you have been living in a cave the past few days, here are a few introductory posts about the Chase Sapphire Reserve – basically it’s a premium card that is offering a 100,000 Ultimate Rewards signup bonus and comes with a $450 annual fee. The discussion was whether Chase Sapphire Reserve 5/24 would be in effect, and now that the application is live, we now have some data points.

Chase Sapphire Reserve 5/24 data points
So while this is not a comprehensive and statistically significant survey, I thought I would look on the various posts that have been put out on Chase Sapphire Reserve 5/24 and read through all the comments of people saying if they were approved or declined, along with whether they were over or under the Chase 5/24 rule.
- Miles to Memories – 2 people over 5/24 – 2 declines.

There is also a ton of discussion including survey spreadsheets on the reddit thread. So it looks like Chase Sapphire Reserve 5/24 is definitely the case.

This is a newb question, but is the 5/24 only Chase cards or all cards across all banks?
Chase Sapphire Reserve 5/24 takes into account ALL cards, not just Chase cards
But the limitation only applies to Chase-branded cards, i.e. If you’re over 5/24 you could still be successful applying for Chase’s Hyatt card, but not Sapphire, Freedom, etc.
Specifically it does apply to some Chase co-branded cards, but not the IHG or Hyatt cards
I saw a post of somebody being approved with 10/24. They got a credit limit of $35K, so it’s may be a special case.
No instant approval for me, to add another data point. I may be over 5/24, but I don’t think so …
Did you try yourself Dan? I personally got declined for 5/24.
I have not tried personally. I am going to talk to my Chase banker and see if I”m pre-approved
Update: called the recon line and got approved. Yay!
FWIW the rep didn’t mention anything to indicate I was denied. I suspect they pended the online application because I’ve already got 3 other Chase cards with probably ~$60k or so in cumulative credit with Chase. They probably just wanted a human to look at the application.
Does anyone know if authorized user status counts towards 5/24. I got on my wife’s amex to hit the sign up bonus and it definitely is now reflected on my credit report that I have that card? Curious if this counts as a card and if I were to remove myself as an authorized user whether the account would still show up as me having got the card.
Yes it does, so if 5/24 is important to you then you should remove yourself as an AU from your wife’s card
If you are applying for more than 5 CCs in less than two years, you are not a typical consumer and I have no problem with them denying you another card.
I’ve got no problem with them doing anything they want to do. Just reporting the facts 🙂
Under 5/24; instant approval
9/24 applied in person at branch and was told I am “pre-approved” and confirmed approval a few mins later… 89k income and 790 score.
Just at 5/24 – pending notification so assume DENIED!! Ugh!
Do we have any idea how long the 100K bonus will be offered? How long can I wait to apply?
I went into the bank and was approved there. I had to talk to a representative and she shifted some of my limits from my Southwest cards over to the Reserve. I don’t come close to those limits, so it all worked out fine.
One month over the 5/24, declined. Told to apply when oldest card goes off credit report next month.
Just to follow up on @Dave previous comment, authorized cards on your credit report do count against you. I was initially denied and had to call the reconsideration line twice before getting an approval. The second representative went above and beyond and personally looked at my credit report and decided to ‘exclude’ the ones I am an authorized user on. She also excluded the lines of credit I have like Home Depot because she said those can only be used at that retailer. She then moved some credit around from my existing Chase cards. Hope this helps everyone. Good Luck.
A little over 5/25. Applied and pending approval. Fingers crossed!
I have 11/24 but was preapproved in branch and got my app accepted today 30,000 credit limit
I was pre-approved and got instant approval when I applied in branch with 32k credit limit.
I’ve had 22 hard pulls and 29 accounts opened in last 24 months as reported on my credit report.
So I thought its my lucky day and applied for the United Explorer card for which I got a 50k mail offer. That went into pending 🙁
Hoping the two inquiries get combined and I get approved. Not planning to call the recon line.
I went into the branch , wasn’t pre approved, applied, it went pending and ultimately I was denied. Very disappointing. I am way over 5/24 but it seems so are others who are getting approved. I was really hopeful 🙁
