The Canucks are uptight. I was asked at the Canadian border if I had any firearms or weapons and I replied as a joke, “Not today” and I then got interrogated for at least five minutes:
“What kind of guns do you own?” “Has there ever been any guns in this car?” etc.
It wasn’t pleasant and he was trying to figure out a way to detain us but he didn’t. A year earlier I had said the same thing and the border control agent just laughed and waved me on.
Needles to say, I will never make a joke when asked about firearms or weapons at the Canadian border again.
When I was on a county trip in Minnesota / Wisconsin, we crossed the US / Canadian border 4 times. Sometimes it was easy, other times they really grilled us. And especially since we were essentially driving around doing nothing, it was tricky to know what kind of answers to give that didn’t sound super suspicious
