In 2024, I was attending a conference in Atlanta. After looking at a few hotel options, I decided to book the Holiday Inn Express Atlanta Downtown. This Holiday Inn Express Atlanta Downtown review will give an idea of the different amenities and features of the hotel and hopefully help you decide if you want to stay here if you’re looking for a Downtown Atlanta Georgia hotel.
Holiday Inn Express Atlanta Downtown location
The Holiday Inn Express Atlanta Downtown is located at 111 Cone Street NW Atlanta, Georgia 30303. This is 3 blocks from the Peachtree Center MARTA station, and quite convenient to most of Downtown Atlanta.
The building that the Holiday Inn Express Atlanta Downtown is in was originally built in 1890, which shows in certain parts of the building.
Holiday Inn Express & Suites Atlanta Downtown cost
We booked a room with points, for 63,000 points for 3 nights. I wanted to use the fourth night free benefit that comes with the IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card, but I only needed to stay for 3 nights, so I only booked it for 3, even though it pained me to do so.. I also bought IHG points when they were having a 100% bonus on purchasing points, meaning I paid a total of $255 for a 4 night stay. The cash cost for the official conference hotel was around $1,000 for the 4 nights, which is how buying points saved me nearly 80% on this hotel stay.

Holiday Inn Express Atlanta Downtown review – room
For some reason, I reserved a 2 Double Beds room, which is what I got. The room was VERY small – really only suitable for 1 or 2 people. The picture below is nearly the entire hotel room.
This was the view to the side of the bed, with a minifridge, safe, and microwave. I actually tried to USE the microwave in a hotel room for the first time in forever, and it didn’t work. I found that it was unplugged, and it worked after I plugged it in.
There was also a small bathroom.
Holiday Inn Express & Suites Atlanta Downtown wifi and amenities
Wifi is complimentary in the lobby and in the guest rooms for IHG members. The Holiday Inn Express & Suites Atlanta Downtown wifi speed was decent and I had no issues using it
There isn’t a separate business center, however there is a small computer and printer area next to the front desk that is available for guests, if you need to print a boarding pass, directions or anything.
There is not a pool, though there is a fitness center with the basic equipment
Holiday Inn Express & Suites Atlanta Downtown hotel review – parking
The Holiday Inn Express & Suites Atlanta Downtown parking is valet only (despite the sign below) and is $40 / night, charged to your room. I did not have a car during my stay so I did not use the parking.
Holiday Inn Express & Suites Atlanta Downtown food
The Holiday Inn Express and Suites – Riverwalk Atlanta is similar to that of many other Holiday Inn Express hotels in the United States. There was a decent sized breakfast area located on the mezzanine, one floor above the lobby.
There were eggs, breakfast potatoes, sausage and bacon and biscuits on the day that I was there, though I imagine it is switched up each day. Unfortunately, on the days that I was there, apparently the oven was broken and had been broken for a few weeks. The staff said that they were waiting on a part but it had been several weeks. Instead, they were cooking breakfast items on 2 air fryers :-/. In practice, that meant that breakfast was fairly unusable. One day I was there, there were no eggs, bacon, sausage or cinnamon rolls and it was about a 25 minute wait before any showed up (and then they were quickly devoured by all the people that had been waiting).
And of course, the famous (at least in our family!) Holiday Inn Express cinnamon rolls!
There is a small market near the lobby (even smaller than usual), where you can buy various snacks, meals and drinks at outrageous prices.
The Bottom Line – Holiday Inn Express & Suites Atlanta Downtown hotel review
Overall this was a decent stay if you are looking for a cheap Atlanta hotel. It was very easy to get to from the airport using the MARTA train. The price was much cheaper than hotels that are closer to the action, and I thought my stay was good, other than the breakfast issues, which were disappointing. The Holiday Inn Express & Suites Atlanta Downtown can definitely be a great option if you’re looking for a cheap Atlanta hotel.
