I recently returned from a family trip out to Yosemite National Park and other points in California. We had a 2 night stay at the Hyatt House Sacramento Airport / Natomas and overall it was a good stay. I’ll have a full Hyatt House Sacramento Airport / Natomas hotel review coming up in a bit, but I wanted to share something funny / annoying that happened to us on our stay.

Unstoppable Sofa Bed vs. Immovable TV Stand

We had booked a 2 queen bed accessible room, but we were upgraded into a 2 queen suite that also included a sofa bed. This was nice because we did have 5 people staying in the room, so that allowed everyone to get a bed.

But when we went to get the sofa bed ready, we ran into a problem. When we pulled out the sofa bed, it wouldn’t extend fully, because it was hitting the TV stand that divided the “bedroom” from the “suite” (air quotes because it is my belief that you should not be able to call a room a “suite” unless there is a closable door.

We tried moving the TV stand but as far as we could tell, it was bolted to the floor. It moved a little bit but not enough to extend the sofa bed. I was a bit nervous about somehow breaking something, so we decided not to mess with it. Instead, we just took the mattress and put it on the floor. My youngest daughter, who is usually last on the bed hierarchy, was excited to not have to sleep on the couch cushions 🙂

So Do I Say Anything?

So then the question came up of whether we should say anything to the front desk. I have wondered a few times along the lines of what you should tell the hotel front desk if your stay was awful and whether hotel front desk clerks intentionally not ask you about your stay when you checkout, so we wondered if we should say anything, either before we checked out or at check out.

We decided that it wasn’t that big of a deal for us and we didn’t really want to deal with hotel staff going through our room while we were there, so we chose not to say anything during our stay. Instead, I did mention it when we checked out as something that had gone out.

The Bottom Line

At a recent Hyatt House stay, the sofabed that was in our room would not fully extend, making it basically unusable. It hit the TV stand that was bolted into the floor and would not recline. It was a fairly minor deal for us as my daughter was fine with just putting the mattress on the floor, but I did find it amusing that nobody seemed to test this. It reminds me of the “You had one job” memes that circulate the Internet.
