Sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live has been around for decades, lampooning (usually fairly viciously) a variety of different people, companies and things about everyday life. I used to watch SNL as a teenager many years ago, but haven’t watched a show live probably since then. But recently I have been following the SNL channel on YouTube and have seen a few sketches that have been great. I know it’s a bit passe to say that SNL hasn’t been funny in decades, but you can’t tell me that sketches like The Age of Discovery or Washington’s Dream aren’t hilarious.

SNL Roasting Southwest Airlines With a New Definition of “Standby”
Now Saturday Night Live is out with a new sketch laying into Southwest Airlines. A man (played by guest host Jake Gyllenhaal) is trying to cancel his Southwest Airlines flight and keeps getting the runaround. When the agent tries to give him a standby ticket he asks “standby means I’m not guaranteed to get on the flight, right?” (the correct definition) but is corrected that
“No, you’ll be on the flight – you’ll just have to ‘stand by’ the bathroom the whole time”
The irony about this is that Southwest Airlines actually has one of the best cancellation policies of any airline out there – you can cancel at any time and get a full refund.

The sketch also has some other gems including
- “We are trained to say ‘no’ and see if people just accept it”
- “Southwest doesn’t assign seats – just another way we’re trying to make flying like riding a city bus” (SEE ALSO: Can you save seats with Southwest Airlines seating?)
- “Did you know you can get wifi on your flight? We didn’t. If you do, can you please let us know?”
Have a watch – if you like travel and hate talking with customer service agents, I think you’ll like this one

I have had changes to a SW flight in the past and find it easy and convenient to make a change or receive a refund compared to other airlines
