KEY LINK: IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card – Earn 140,000 Bonus Points after spending $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. $99 annual fee.
We talk a lot about credit cards and welcome offers here, because that is one of the best ways to get a lot of points quickly. It’s too hard to get any appreciable amount of points when you only earn them 1 or 2 per dollar, unless you have a LOT of spending. We just did a rundown of the 3 different IHG cards a few weeks ago, and already IHG has made that a bit obsolete.

Chase IHG One Rewards Premier Welcome Offer
Previously, the welcome bonus on the IHG Premier card has fluctuated between 100,000 and 140,000 points. I have seen the offer as high as 175,000 points.
Now Chase and IHG have just changed the offer to 140,000 Bonus Points after spending $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months. IHG points aren’t as valuable as some other types of miles and points, but if you figure a value of 0.5 to 0.7 cents per point, that still means this signup bonus is worth $875 to $1,225. And that’s not even including the fact that you’ll get up to $100 towards TSA Precheck or Global Entry (going up to $120 starting 10/1/24), 4th night free when redeeming awards, IHG Platinum status and a free night certificate each year on your anniversary.
Chase IHG One Rewards Premier Review
The IHG Premier credit card is the “standard” IHG credit card that is typical for most people. I have this card, and it’s one of the few credit cards that I will pay the annual fee on. The big reason is the annual free night certificates that come with the card. Yes, you’re limited to 40,000 points now, but you can top it off and still get outstanding value. I used mine at the Holiday Inn Resort in Jamaica to good success.

Which IHG card is the best?
As I mentioned in my post the other day, there are currently 3 IHG credit cards, the IHG Premier (that we’re talking about here), the IHG Premier Business and the no annual fee IHG Traveler. The IHG Premier and the IHG Premier Business card offers a free night on your card anniversary. The IHG Traveler card does not currently offer a free night certificate. All 3 cards offer the 4th night free on award stays.
If you don’t have any IHG credit card right now, my recommendation would be to get the IHG Premier card. It has a great welcome bonus and the annual free night certificate is (for me) easily worth the $99 annual fee. If you already have that card, then consider the IHG Premier Business credit card. If you don’t feel comfortable applying for a business credit card and you don’t want to pay the fee of the IHG Premier credit card, then you might consider the no annual fee IHG Traveler credit card, though IMO it’s barely worth a 5/24 slot (if at all). The terms of the Premier and Traveler card both say that you can’t get the card if you have the other.
As always, don’t apply for a credit card just because some guy on the internet said you should, but if you are planning on applying and would like to support the site, we appreciate it.

Hundred bucks a year for 40,000 points…nah
That is certainly one way to look at it from an ongoing perspective. But for the first year, it’s $100 for 180,000 points (maybe 220,000 if you can get a 2nd free night cert before canceling). That seems like a no-brainer to me
How’re you getting to the 180k points? Offer is for 140k plus 100$?
I did not see the $100 Global Entry fee reimbursement on Chase website. Only you and Lucky quoted such benefit but none of other bloggers mentioned it.
Which is it?
On the Chase website, I see it listed as under “Travel Benefits”
Terms said one can’t have both Premier and Traveler cars – only one of them. That limitation was reported last year when IHG renewed it’s lineup.
You are correct – I have updated the post to reflect that.
“FNC – you’re limited to 40,000 points now”
Not true, as you can top off that amount with extra points. Premier FNCs are uncapped.
Well, in a way we are both right. The certificate is only good for 40,000 points, but you are correct that you can top up the certificate. So if you want to book a hotel that costs 65,000 points / night, you can use a certificate plus 25,000 extra points.
I already have the old IHG Select ($49 annual fee) and the IHG Premier Business card. Would I still get the sign-up bonus if I went for the Premier?
The terms and conditions say
“This product is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of any personal IHG One Rewards Credit Card, or (ii) previous cardmembers of any personal IHG One Rewards Credit Card who received a new cardmember bonus for any personal IHG One Rewards Credit Card within the last 24 months.”
So by my reading of that, you would NOT be eligible as long as you hold the IHG Select card. I can’t confirm but this feels like something that has changed – I think you used to be able to hold all 3, but maybe I’m misremembering
That’s what I feared. Thank you.
