I love these little free points offers that companies give.  I wrote earlier this month about how you can get 150 free SPG points (in about 60 seconds) and I wanted to drop a reminder for you because the offer is expiring on Saturday the 31st if you haven’t done it yet.

Some of the other deals that have come up in the past few weeks / months include offers for How to get 200 Starwood points for free in 60 seconds, 100 Free Marriott points – takes 10 seconds, 500 Free La Quinta points in under a minute, 1000 Free AAdvantage miles (takes 2 minutes), 500 United miles for opting in to emails, and 500 bonus Amtrak points for opting in to emails (targeted?) (some of these may be expired by now)

Not only does any amount of points help to build up a good point balance, but in most cases, these points count as qualifying activity to help keep your points from expiring.  Actually my Starwood points were about to expire later this year (though that was extended when I applied for the SPG Amex card as part of a recent credit card churn)

150 free SPG points for setting up security questions

Starwood is offering 150 free SPG points for setting up security questions on your account.  Starwood announced it on Flyertalk and you can read some of the details there.

In order to get your 150 SPG points, just log on to spg.com, and go to your My Profile page

Once you’re there, you can update your security questions.

When I did this a few weeks ago, I originally had just 1 security question: “What is your verbal password”, which I didn’t know anyways.  Just fill out 4 security questions and the answers, and the 150 points will be added within 2-4 weeks.  I will say that the questions were a little tricky at least for me – many of them were questions that I wasn’t sure I’d remember the answer to:

  • What is my preferred luggage brand?!?
  • What is my preferred spa?!??

etc.  Eventually I was able to find 4 questions that seemed like I’d remember the answers, and entered them (and their corresponding answers) into the form and hit submit

Official Terms and conditions:

  • *Bonus offer: Member can earn a onetime bonus of 150 Starpoints after selecting and answering four (4) security questions on spg.com from October 8, 2015, through October 31, 2015 (the “promotion period”).
  • This promotion is not transferable. Offer available to existing SPG members only (as of 10/8/15).
  • Bonus Starpoints will be credited to the member’s account within 2–4 weeks of the close of the promotion on October 31, 2015.

I checked and I haven’t gotten my 150 Starpoints yet, though I did get my 200 points for opting in to Starwood promotional emails.  Good luck!
